davanne
Does anyone have any details of this site. We met a couple of full timers at St jean de luz who were heading therefor the winter. They were going to give us the details but we left without getting them. B-)

B-) Hi, It's many years since we were in Lagos in those days the site was closed in the winter. The site is on the right as you start to go uphill as you are leaving the town going west. The site was never in any guide as far as I remember. Don
nomad
Hi, its not an ex servicemans campsite its a site for Portuguese military personnel ranks of Seargeant and above. They do allow non Portuguese ex military personnel on but they insist that you book through the Portuguese Embassy in the UK. Its very reasonably priced but the size of their pitches leave a lot to be desired, I struggled to get a 7.5 metre van on a pitch there. Another point is that being an the side of a steep hill there are not many level pitches and as usual most are taken by caravans. It is open throughout the year as it is part of a military base. I was there last in Feb 2008 and have not been since so hopefully the situation has not changed. Colin

Barbarian
Hi, just seen your posting re. the ex servicemens campsite. Just a thought if you can't get on. We stayed in Lagos last year at Parque Campismo da Trindade, just across the road from the ex servicemens site near the Fire Station so it's the same walking distance to the town. It had all the facilities we needed, the showers were cleaned twice a day by a young English girl, small shop that was not expensive (for a site) Bar, coin operated washing machines clothes drying lines close to restaurants, bars etc. The site had been recently taken over by a Dutch couple who were in the process of upgrading the whole site, shower blocks etc. The pitches were bigger than the ex servicemens site. We had a pitch (pick your own) next to a football ground and the only time it was used was in the early evening for young players training. We paid about 9 euros a night with hook-up, price reduces depending on length of stay. The security was good no vehicle movement in or out after 11pm, barriers locked, we were given cards to get back in the electronic gate after 11 and there was a watchman on all night checking entry cards. All in all not a bad site we will be going back to Portugal early next year and this site is a definate for us. If you Google the site you may get more info. Hope this is of some use.
