Are the publishers trying to put Vicarious Books out of business? I thought that Vicarious were the UK agents, I appreciate that the C&CC also sell them. I know some won't agree but Vicarious sell a lot of specialist camping/caravanning/motorhome titles that I feel I should support them. Just a personal view.

Before you sign up to the annual membership, just make sure of bank the bank charges for paying a direct debit in Euros through a Sterling bank account. The 9.95 Euros might be even dearer than £12.99 from Vicarious.

I'm nothing to do with Vicarious by the way, just wary of a "bargain" at first glance!

Hi David,

Many on the forum know that I have a connection with Vicarious Books. :-D :-D

I do research for the guides, site inspections and help out on the stand at the shows. :-D :-D

That is as far as I'm involved, at my time of life 8-) I don't want the stress in getting involved in running a business. :'(

Safe travelling.

subscription runs for a minimum of 2 years at 9.95€ - a saving from 13.95€

plus further 2€ for postage

Vicarious Books have been including postage in cost of book - looks to be about £12 for 2011

so - 12€ or £12

B-)

Taking account of their predicted price of £11.99 and the discount code that Vicarious sends out to previous buyers and e-mail offer subscribers it may well work out nearly as cheap! All that glisters is not neccessarily gold comes to mind!

Stick with the British company methinks!

Received their email this morning and just pre-ordered my copy, £11.15 including 2nd class postage and discount code.

Sticking with VB rather than the advertised "subscription", which quotes €9.99 plus €2 postage. Can't see the advantage really, also in their T&C's it states that "discount may vary", so you could be tied in for 2 years and pay more in the 2nd year than with VB, which usually offers a discount as well.

the advantage of a standing order / subscription is that you don't have to remember to order - it just comes automatically

but

so does the reminder from VB

either way - it's excellent value as previously said

I just wish that some of the French Municipals would take it up, they do in the Netherlands

The 2011 ACSI guide is available for £11.15 by using the discount code HG294DP on the Vicarious Books site http://www.vicarious-shop.com/home.php?cat=2

Hi Don

I will be ordering the ACSI book from VB - is there also a discount code for the All The Aires France Book?

David

Hi David,

There will be a discount code for the third edition of All the Aires France when it is published in the new year.

If you go to the VB site and subscribe to the "Product update mailing list" you will receive notification when the guide is available and details of the discount code.

I was not very organised at end of 2008 so missed VB offer. I did buy DVD in 2009 though.

In Netherlands in April 2009 I bought a Dutch copy at the first camp site in order to get the discount for camping. It cost 12.50 Euros in Dutch language with 1601 sites listed. Therefore VB offer in English is good value.

ACSI are trying to maximise their profit as they must be giving VB a considerable discount to make the VB business viable.

  • 4 weeks later...

Rather than start a new string, I've resurrected this one.  Anyone noticed how many of the ACSI sites are now charging extra for Tourist Tax?  Can't really blame the sites for adding it on, as they have to pay it, but it tends to stand out more clearly against the simple all-in ACSI rate.

As a percentage of the cost of staying on a campsite, some of the tax totals become quite significant.  Since I assume the sites are in any case charged the local equivalent of a business rate, charging again for refuse disposal, which is what the TT seems mainly aimed at, seems a bit cheeky to me.

"Thank you for visiting our country/area, and contributing to our national/local economy, and here's the bill"!  Seems a bit potentially self-defeating to me.

BrianBut hasn't that always been the case? ACSI rates have always been exclusive of Tourist Tax, it's the same with Camping Cheques. Or do you mean that a lot more ACSI sites are charging extra than before?Must admit, I don't understand how TT is arrived at, in the same area, ie a mile down the road, 2 sites can be charging different amounts, noticed that once near Oye Plage. If they are charged by the same authority, should the TT not therefore be the same? Or am I missing something?Ina.
