LPG itself has no smell as such, so a "stenching agent " is added,

so that one is aware if gas is present.

As the gas runs out, the stenching agent is more concentrated in the mix, which makes one more aware of it. That is why your wife can probably smell the gas - hopefully there isn't a leak anywhere.

We have a bulk LPG gas tank at home as we're not on the mains gas.

A couple of year's ago we could smell gas in the house and as I had access to gas detectors and leak solution, I searched for days trying to find a leak. It turned out that our new gas supplier had let levels drop to almost empty, so we were experiencing what I described above.

It's an horrible stink, but it's there for a purpose. (lol)
