condensation?

In my (admittedly very old fashioned) fridge, there is a little round window at the bottom, which you can look in and see the gas pilot light. It seems to have filled up with condensation, making it difficult to see anything at all. Is there any way of drying it out and stopping it happening again? Don't want to try and remove the little window without asking, in case it won't go back!!

They do that!  If you are running the fridge on gas, try it on electricity and it should clear.  If you are running it on electricity, try it for a while on gas, and it may clear.  It is simply that the inside of the fridge is cold, making the sight glass cold, so if outside is very humid, the glass being uninsulated, condensation forms on the back of the glass.  You could also check the temp in the fridge, which may be way too low.

Thanks for that Brian, sounds as though it is just a common occurance then and not an indication of anything wrong. Can't say I've noticed it happening before. Mind you, since they got the fridge working on 12 volt again for me, it does get very cold.

If its raining, or if the air is very moist due to recent rain, each time you open the fridge or freezer door you will let in some of the moist air which will therefore condense around the fridge interior, on your goodies, and including your window.

 

And as Brian suggests the temperature might be set too low.

 

You should not see any moisture on dry or summer days.
