Hi Again, Personal preference to south of France as follows..Calais to Rouen via Abbeville, on coast road to avoid toll section, then Rouen to Evreux, small toll section, next Dreux, Chartres, Orleans, Gien, Nevers,Moulins,Riom,Clermont Ferrand onto freemotorway southbound via St Flour, Drop down into Millau to avoid Toll bridge, and on to Agde,Sete,Monpellier or Beziers. Scenery south of Clermont very impressive from vulcanaria, to mediaeval Knight Templar villages, and Knights Hospitalier villages,, to Dolomites, and man made lakes west of Millau. Many Aires for stopovers , Tarn Jonte and Dourbe Gorges east of Millau plenty campsites both commercial and municipal

Calais to Agde 670 mile approx, arrive 3rd day if in a hurry (could be faster if you dont stop as often as we do). Level countryside around Agde for ease of bicycling, and Hyper for restocking near to Agde Camping cheque site. Agde marina if boats are your thing, Midi Canal for cycling on towpath.

The realistic ferry routes for you would all be with Brittany Ferries. Currently there are 3 routes - Plymouth-Santander, Portsmouth-Santander and (recently introduced) Portsmouth-Bilbao. The single-fare cost for 2 adults, plus an average motorhome, plus cabin accommodation, in May 2011, would be around £400-£450. (You can check easily enough via the Brittany Ferries website for more accurate figures.) Whether BF will still be operating those routes in 2012 is anybody's guess, and it's a near certainty that the cost will have risen by then.
