Thanks from me too.

I did have a look on John Lewis' website last night, but it seems they no longer deal with Avtex. (Or at least they had none available).

Edited: Just had another look and they're now doing the W163DR (16") for £329 with 5 year guarantee.

Best price I've seen is £299.99 from Family Camping Supplies, but no mention of length of guarantee.

Personally, I was thinking of the 10" model, which is going for £269.99, but nuevogirl says she'll need a pair of binoculars thrown in free!

Mentioned is how you sit & view your TV in the Motorhome.

We had a Currys £100 worth and it is quite good value, but when viewed in the m/home it was difficult to get a good picture unless you were looking directly at the screen. A slight divergence showed off matt blacks and muted colours.

Because the viewing area was split, this meant that we both had to compromise on the picture.

Looking at a set at White good sellers, be mindful of how little space you may have in the m/home. Standing back you will get a good picture, Standing @ 45 degrees to the side and underneath about 5 foot away, you may get a more relalistic view of quality of display.

We changed to the Avtex and you can see the screen at almost any angle.

The avtex tuning gives a good many varations if you travel on the continent and pick up terestrial TV, (Useful for local weather forcasts)

We've got an Akura new from a chap who has a stall at a local market (but also has a proper business too nearby and goes to the markets as that's where he gets a lot of business). He supplies a lot to the caravan/motorhome fraternity as the TVs have the TVs he sells have the 12v transformer 'brick' so you can run them direct from 12v in your vans etc. We've had 2 from him, the first being a 20" TV/DVD combi but we had to get a smaller Akura 16" TV/DVD combi when we changed vans as it was just a bit tooooooo big for where we wanted to put it, the replacement cost us £109.

We've used them for a while now and have found them fine for what we do - we tend to watch 'home made' DVDs (pre-recorded standard TV programmes which we take away with us, rather than 'film' DVDs) and don't have a problem at all. It certainly is more convenient than the video player we had previously and the discs take up a lot less space and the power draw is a lot less too. We haven't had an issue at all with running them direct from the 12v without a 'special' lead.

When it's wet and miserable and you have done your cross word, had your coffee, eaten all the biscuits and wondering what to do next the TV is a really handy thing to have. We aren't slaves to it, it comes out when there isn't anything else to do, but we are more than happy to sit outside the van in the sunshine and don't even think of the TV but it is great in the dark evenings - the new Sherlock Holmes movie was fab in the DVD player.

:-D
