Mel B
Happy bunny here ... all done!!!! :-> It's going to be the year of the 'dressing gown' for the ladies and 'jumper' for the men, with other sundry items thrown in for good measure. :-D Just got to wrap it all now! *-) Whilst I was at it I spotted a very nice pair of Thinsulate lined leather gloves, reduced to £3.99, so I decided to treat myself to an early Christmas present. :D

Mel B
Forgot to say, we've got watches for them too .... does that make you happier Peter? :-D And before anyone ask, no the presents did NOT come from flipping car boot sales!!!! We bought them in proper shops!!!!! :-> Anyway, we don't do big presents in our family - we don't have kids but my brothers and sisters have, as has my hubby's sister, and we prefer them to spend their money on their kids, so we all have a 'rule' that we don't go mad spending daft amounts of money on each other. My sisters usually get us daft stuff, really tacky, but some of it can be a real laugh. I prefer to get some 'useful' stuff, to go along with some fun stuff too. But my brother seems to have got stuck in a rut of buying us 'speciality' ground coffee - a cafetiere and variety pack one year, followed last year by a variety pack of coffee again ... I really hope we don't get it again as we don't drink that much and still have some left from the first year!!! *-) No doubt one of my sisters will get me another cheapo 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle that'll go straight to the charity shop, or chocolates yet again .... hey ho, it makes her happy so that's what matters. We did buy my mum a new 19" LCD tv for £100, and despite checking with her first, she doesnt' want the bl**dy thing now as she likes her old CRT portable!!!!!! Aaaaargggghhhhhhh...... >:-( I don't know what we're going to do when they turn off the analogue signal here in August next year!!! 8-)

Why thank you sweetie pie, I like you tooooooooo. :D I don't like Christmas anyway, don't mind getting the presents, wrapping and giving them, but not a massive fan of receiving them, or the day itself - too many bad memories .... :-( One of these years I'd love to be away for Christmas ... hopefully next year we will be. :-D

deerhound
Shops are going mad already, makes me feel uneasy when I see the shopping trollies heaped to top, then week after xmas the bins are overflowing with the excess, I detest Xmas and how some people are sucked in to the hype of it all! most of activities are drink related! just my opinion. Getting motorhome ready to escape it all at some remote destination up North Scotland. :D

Porky
Bah humbug>:-) Peer pressure and guilt are the driving forces fueled by billions of pounds of advertising causes the christmas present dilema. Last year we gave everyone a charity gift aid (you know seeds, water, a goat etc) even to the family kids. Needless to say we are probably not the most popular of relatives*-)

Mel B
maggyd - 2010-11-17 4:20 PM Well I havent even started :-S I put it off for as long as I can!! 10 grand-children that I have decided to give them all a Christmas card with money in it !! but I cant decide what to do with my children and there partners!! gift vouchers/money/or trudge round M&S looking for 8 jumpers etc; they will all be half price after Christmas anyway!! I think I have just made my mind up (lol) guess what?? No kids for us but my Mum has loads of grand kids to spend on - I've convinced her (I think!) to just give them all money this year and save having to traipse around for presents (even being a spritely 85, she has her limits!). I don't know why she bothers with quite a lot of them though as she doesn't even get a card from them ... they soon know where she is when they are after some dosh though, but she's finally learned to say no! As for gift cards/tokens/vouchers - I wish people wouldn't give them. I have had gift vouchers and I hate them with a vengence as they are usually for places I wouldn't normally shop at so I end up either giving them away or spending them for the sake of it. Much better to just give some cash and a little present to wrap it up with - that's what we do for our nephews and nieces and it alwasy goes down well. There was one Christmast, though, that this nearly backfired on the recipient ... we'd got him some large Kitkats as his daft little present (he really, really liked them 8-) ) and under on of the wrappers we put his money, expecting him to find it as he always did when we gave him money with a little present. Unfortunately in his eagerness to open it he ripped off the wrapper and coulnd't find his money as it was with the wrapping paper ... he thought we'd just given him Kitkats!!! When we rang to wish them all happy Christmas later on and asked if they'd liked their presents, his Mum told us he was a bit disappointed at only having been given Kitkats - when we found out what he'd done, we told her there had been money in there ... exit the whole family to raid the dustbin for the wrapping paper!!!! :->
Syd
We have a caravan in Spain but always come home for the winter. Jan just loves Christmas, we both believe that money is there to give us pleasure and what can give more pleasure than giving christmas presants. She has well over 50 of them already wrapped up and stacked in our loft, she will easilly make it to the 100 before the big day comes around. Aaaaargggghhhhhhh...... >:-( I don't know what we're going to do when they turn off the analogue signal here in August next year!!! 8-) The bad news - my Mum was speaking to my hubby yesterday and has now had second thoughts and wishes she'd kept the LCD tv, to quote what she said to him "I should've kept my mouth shut shouldn't I!" .... Yup ... that'll be the day!!! 8-) Problem is we've now bought her a load of other presents instead ... *-) Haven't rung her yet (her neck either ... :D ) as I'm still fuming ... will have to ring her tonight though as I usually do so on Thursdays, I can see it being an expensive phone call. :-S The good news - all the presents all wrapped and in bags waiting to be taken round. :->
