We are still contemplating purchasing them.

4 main suppliers Taylormade, Silver Screens, Silverproducts. (I think all 3 only deal direct, don’t know of any stockists). Isomatten – German. Another is Fiamma but only screen covers (IMO) rather than Insulating screens.

A guy & his wife, reports are that delivery can be hit & miss.

They do attend most of the Shows, giving you an opportunity to have a look at their product.

http://www.silverscreens.co.uk/index.html

do NOT attend any shows, so unless you know someone with their product you can’t determine the quality.

Can be difficult to get hold of on the phone, also Hit & Miss whether they ring back.

No prices on website.

Isomatten

German External Screens, they are available for Coachbuilt as well a s “A” Class.

Van Comfort are at Retford.

e-mail info@silverproducts.co.uk or call 07513 812514

This was a new name to me & they also sell via e-Bay.

Check:- they only have a Mobile phone as contact – no Landline No.

From their website:-

Q) Why does your website not show either a geographical address or landline phone number.

A) I did have both on our website at first ...however after the 5th Motorhome turned up outside my home at the weekend unannounced i decided that the address would be removed after all we are mail order only, All our screencovers have a return address on the packaging.

I also use the mobile number as 99% of the time i have it with me and can give the customer a better chance of actually getting through to us.

A couple of members have posted on another thread that delivery is good, but they have not had the chance to try them out.

£49.00 The least insulation, but sufficient Spring & Autumn or if you only want to keep dirt off screen. We had one for our last Fiat Ducato Bessacarr (2006) & it worked OK, but I wouldn’t go for one if intending to tour in deep winter.

I have owned both Taylormade and Silverscreens to fit the x250 Peugeot / Fiat there is nothing much different with either although Taylormade are a lot cheaper and in my opinion a bit better quality and certainly well worth the money , you may  wonder why I have had both makes my 1st set was Taylormade which I sold with the motorhome because we thought we would not be getting another one, but we have and the only reason I bought the Silverscreen set was because someone had changed their MH for an A Class and sold the nearly new Silverscreens at a real knock down price used only twice and were only £50.

Silver Products are basicly the same item as Silver Screens made in the same place but sold by the son and a bit cheaper.

Silver Screens?Products are a bit thinner & lighter than Taylormade but claim to have the same insulation level.

Taylormade do a long line version that covers the heater intakes I use these at home but I am thinking of getting a Silver Product one for winter touring lighter & not as bulky.

I think the high quality product from Van Comfort is, in fact, the Thermo Lux and Thermo Jacket, versions by Hindermann, and not Iso Matten, which is, I think, a lightweight, and less fully insulated, product by Kantop.  Kantop makes a very wide and useful range of insulation products, including cab door insulating pads.  See here http://tinyurl.com/2vsj7hl  Access English catalogue by clicking on "Union Jack".

We have an external "Silver Screen". Very good, combats condensation on the inside of the windscreen and keeps the van a lot warmer. However ....... you need to appreciate that humidity within the van will always condense somewhere when the temp falls at night.

Ask yourself where the coldest part of your van are, thats where condensation will form. .......... its in the lockers and behind cushions (as we found during last week!).

The physics of humidity and condensation will ensure that you can never elliminate condensation completely, you can only manage it with ventilation. Trouble is, when you open a door/window to ventilate you introduce more moist air from outside that will condense on the next heat/cool cycle!

Just bought a boxer/ducato Silver Products external screen, with the optional privacy mesh for £105 including postage.

Only used it for one weekend but it was very cold out and no condensation :-D

Emailed the guy to ask about stock and got an immediate reply from his Blackberry. Took the plunge and the screen was delivered the next day 8-)

It seems to be every bit as good as my old Taylor-Made, which I've just flogged on ebay to a lucky punter for £55 *-)

So true - and the next task on my Hobby to-do list is to insulate the interiors of nine of the high-level lockers.

All Hobby Transit-based motorhomes with six locker-doors above the cab-area suffer from a design defect that causes condensation to form on the underside of the GRP 'shell' above the cab. This condensation then drips on to the top of the lockers' structure (made mostly from thinnish hardboard) with totally predictable results.

The only cure (other than to move to somewhere with a hot dry climate!) is to insert insulating material into the void above the lockers but, to gain access to do this, you need to perform major battlefield surgery on the locker structure.

Having stuffed the void with rock-wool and rebuilt the lockers' insides, it still looked like a seriously incompetent plastic surgeon had been practising. The solution was to hide the scars behind carpet tiles cut to fit the lockers' odd shapes and stuck in place using a combination of double-sided carpet-tape and Evo-Stik. This has not only prevented anything in the lockers from rattling, but provided a warm surface pretty much immune to condensation.

When I was preparing for our last trip to France in October, I noticed evidence of condensation on the rear and upper surfaces of the interiors of the nine high-level lockers (ie. the areas of the Hobby's lockers made up from the roof and side body panels) in which we store clothing. So, when I'm in the mood, it will be off to Focus for more tiles, tape and glue.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but as well as fitting your 'Silver Screen' do not forget also to close all the ventilation vents on the dashboard as cold air will penetrate if left open. DO NOT obstruct or cover any of the other purpose built vents (Fridge, Freezer, Heater etc) for obvious reasons *-)

Bought the Kantop Isomat External from http://www.motorcaravanning.co.uk/shopuk/contact.htm. Who delivered very quickly, can't remember exactly but it was within days rather than weeks.

They are thin but did prove effective in the frost in Oxfordshire in early November. They are easy to fit and do fit the newer Peugeot/Ducato very precisely.

Possibly expensive for what they are, but what isn't these days, but do seem well made if indeed 'thin'. Because of the stiffish material they have to be rolled (three parts two side windows and front screen) into their carrier bag giving you a tube 56 inches long by approx 9 inches diameter. (Will store under the seats on our Nuevo, just)

In the recent below -10C temps you would probably need covers on the inside too but for spring/autumn and our more usual winter temps these should do the trick. I would have prefered a softer material you could fold but then you might not have the waterproofing quality of this material.

There was frost on the outside of the mats when we rolled them up to leave but the condensation on the inside the van was superficial.
