Tomo3090 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I've just been ringing round for quotes for my insurance and mentioned we are going to Morocco in March 2011. Caravan Guard and Sureterm Direct won't cover Morocco on their policies and neither will issue a green card separately. So if you are with these it might be worth a checking phone call. I've gone with my existing company, Comfort, who will issue a separate green card for £17.50. The thing is I've been told by all companies that you can't get breakdown cover for Morocco from any UK company. Is this a new thing? What do others do? Has anyone got a contact number for recovery companies who do cover Morocco, I believe ADAC is one, but they're German. (Comfort said the breakdown insurance on my policy would pay me back the recovery insurance fees if I claimed whilst there, but not cover me itself.)
Andy_C Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 International Breakdown cover Morocco on their European policy: http://www.internationalbreakdown.com/ Up to 90 days and subject to some size limitations. ADAC are reported to be very good though. Andy
ian81 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Mondial cover Morocco and have a local office there.
Brian Kirby Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 From Mondial's website, they seem not to do either vehicle insurance nor breakdown/recovery insurance. Do they offer this insurance elsewhere?
Andy_C Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 ian81 - 2010-11-23 3:11 PM Mondial cover Morocco and have a local office there. I don't think Mondial Assistance provides breakdown cover to individuals, it is only available to companies and organisations as far as I know. Andy
Tomo3090 Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Just spoke to International. £395 for breakdown cover only. It is so much because our van has a GVW of 4 tonnes. I've tried to contact ADAC and their number isn't connectable. Back to the drawing board! :-(
hymer634 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Hi, the ADAC terms and conditions says that : "The European area of coverage extends to geographic Europe including Germany, the non-European countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, the Canary Islands, the Azores and Madeira." Alan
johnnerontheroad Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 For ADAC send an email to: stefanie.schleifer@adac.de or tel (+49) 1805101112 and ask to be put through to someone who speaks english. Dave
BGD Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 This thread reminded me that anyone contemplating travel in their MH to any North African country should thoroughly check their vehicle insurance beforehand. I think I'm right in suggesting that almost no normal policy issued anywhere in the EU covers North Africa. Also worth double checking any private medical insurances, etc, too.
Stuart Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 It may be worthwhile contacting Desert Detours, he does trips to Morocco and I think would be pleased to give you advice on request. He has posted on here in the past and may monitor this. HTH Stuart
Big Momma Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 BGD - 2010-11-23 6:08 PM Also worth double checking any private medical insurances, etc, too. Safeguard do Personal Travel Insurance and this covers all countries bordering the Med, including Tunisia. It covers us for both trips in the Motorhome as well as other holiday trips (not in the Motorhome). Before I took the cover out I wanted to check that it was valid in Tunisia and Eygpt, which it is. I had to make a claim for a broken camerawhilst in Eygpt earlier this year. The Underwriters paid the claim (less the Ex cess) without any hassle.
David Dwight Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 We are off to Morocco next March as well. Safeguard will issue us with a Green card when we phone nearer the date. Vehicle breakdown cover is covered by Fiat breakdown assistance. Ray at Desert Detours will give advice on Insurance and Breakdown.
Tomo3090 Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Dave have you checked that with Safeguard? It was only this morning they told me they don't cover it at all, either insurance policy or Green card. Will FIAT cover any van and include recovery based on the age and warranty condition?
David Dwight Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Stephen. I spoke to safeguard late July when we got our green card cover for Croatia, they said talk to them nearer the date for the Morocco cover. They also said that Morocco was classed as Europe. Now you have got us worried, I will talk to them tomorrow. The Breakdown cover is under new vehicle warrenty. Are you going with Desert Detours in March?
Tomo3090 Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 Sure are! On the 8th. Setting out on Valentines day and meandering down through France and Spain, then back through Portugal and Northern Spain. Can't wait! What about yourselves?
David Dwight Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Stephen. Yes we cant wait, but got a lot on before then. Its our little Caravan Club last Rally of the Year starting tomorrow, full Christmas meal etc on Saturday. we are then off on the 27thDec till 3rd Jan with friends to Glouctershire on a CL. We will be going to Morocco by ferry from Portsmouth to Santander on the 23rd Feb. Going to stay nr Malaga for a few days before Morocco, getting the dog into Kennels. See you there. David
DAMAR Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 We went to Marocco earlier this year and found that our existing policy with SAGA covered Marocco.
Andy_C Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 DAMAR - 2010-11-30 10:52 AM We went to Marocco earlier this year and found that our existing policy with SAGA covered Marocco. Saga Motorhome Insurance covers Morocco but the Breakdown Assistance does not. Andy
venus1 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Hi all, I am insured with AXA insurance company for both my vehicle and travel. I have breakdown car insurance and backpacker travel insurance from the same company. It's services are pretty good. ________________________ Travel Insurance for Backpackers
Mickt Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I have my MH insurance with Comfort and speaking to them yesterday they confirmed if i have breakdown cover with there policy then they will extend this to cover Moroco
Tomo3090 Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Mick, do you remember who you spoke to please? They told me they didn't cover Morocco or provide recovery for there. If we did breakdown we could arrange things ourselves there and keep receipts and POSSIBLY be able to claim some or all of it back when we get back. I'm going to go with ADAC if I can't sort it as I know they deffo do provide breakdown and recovery.
Mickt Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I spoke to a young lady called Aimee Cue.Had my confirmation letter today quoting that if i wish to go to Israel,Morocco, Tunisia or Turkey to give them a call at least 7 days prior to going .
DAMAR Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 We checked twice with them and were assured it did
Tomo3090 Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Thanks Mick & Damar and others, I've now had the definitive answer from Comfort! We apply for our green card 14 days before we go and that will give us the relevent phone numbers for breakdown cover as well as accident cover. We contact the people in Morocco they rescue us and we will VERY LIKELY have to pay for it ourselves and claim it back on our return. That'll do for me, sorted! :-D
