pepe63xnotuse
A bit of an odd one this.. ..but sometime back,I recall seeing an small article about a Fiat based Hymer overcab(about 6.5m),which was equipped with a Dangle 4x4 system.. ..does anyone know anything about this model? I'm not after one at the moment,I'm just curious.... ;-) ..I've tried "having a google" but with not much success.. :$ (Although after all the recent talk of inadequate payloads,I'd hate to think what a load of 4x4 running gear would do to vans' payload?.. *-) ) Edit: I should just point out that this was a "proper" Hymer model and not just something converted by the owner... Mel B
Found the below on the Motorhome Facts website in August this year: Hymer have produced a 4 wheel drive motorhome for the past 12 months called the crossover, however, personally I wouldn't want to take it over rougher ground than a wet CL. http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftoptitle-91983-advice-on-4x4-motorhomes.html
Mel B
Not about 4 wheel drive specifically, but interesting nonetheless: http://www.practicalmotorhome.com/news/al-ko-reveals-prototype-electric-chassis
peejay
Heres a road test of the hymer crossover, you'll need to translate it though.... http://www.camp24magazin.com/artikel_detail.php?art=371&page=1 Incidentaly it's the French company Dangel, who convert quite a few base vehicles to 4x4.. http://www.dangel.com/index.html?newlg=E Slightly off topic but I have seen a particularly nice version of (I think) a Romamhome duo for sale with Dangel 4wd on Mobile.de a while back. I think it was a one-off from Ausrtrian converters Geocar. Hopefully theres a photo attached below.. Pete

pepe63xnotuse
Thanks for the replies and the links...all very interesting :-) Prior to use going down the "over bodied & front wheel drive" route,I was all for something 4x4(..an old VW Syncro or a 4x4 pickup & demountable)..but the missus wasn't having any of it!? *-) *..I bet that 4x4 pickup would come in handy now, wouldn't it my dear?..* ;-)

Derek Uzzell
peejay - 2010-12-16 5:10 PM Slightly off topic but I have seen a particularly nice version of (I think) a Romamhome duo for sale with Dangel 4wd on Mobile.de a while back. I think it was a one-off from Ausrtrian converters Geocar. Hopefully theres a photo attached below.. Pete I think there may be no link between the vehicle in your photos and Romahome. Geocar seems to specialise in GRP bodywork conversions and there are alternative base-vehicles and body styles shown on this link: http://www.geocar.org/index.html There was a letter in a French motorhome magazine some years ago about a Dangel 4x4 conversion. This chap had bought a Ducato-based motorhome and specified the 4x4 option. The vehicle had developed a transmission problem and Fiat had said that it was Dangel's responsibility to rectify it as the 4x4 system was fitted after the chassis had left the Fiat factory. Dangel said that the problem lay within the Fiat part of the vehicle, not in their conversion, so it was up to Fiat to put it right. The motorhome converter said "It's nothing to do with us", and the motorhome dealer said "We can't fix it". I think the motorhome magazine said "Oh dear...!"
