HymerVan
For some time the paint (Moondust Silver) on the hubcaps of my 2005 build Ford Transit has been flaking off. It has now reached the stage where there is almost no paint on the outer face of the hubcaps although oddly the paiint on the inner face is OK. The hubcaps themselves are made of a plastic or GRP material. I would like to repaint the hubcap but am not sure how to strip down the flaking paint and prepare/paint the hubcap. Thanks for any contributions. Laurence
ips
probably as cheap just to buy new after market trims from halfords or local car parts dealer.
Brambles
One way to remove rest of flaking paint is to use strong sticky tape. Probaby find most will come off if it has been flaking by itself. They are probably made of ABS, and you can prime with a plastic primer before spraying. Don't expect to get the same lustrious finish of brand new ones. Tend to think buying new Ford ones is easier, but then deprives you of a project.
LMC Camper
I had the same problem on my 2007 Transit and decided to invest in two new ones from the local ford dealer. Better than a home paint job and not too expensive. I only have 2 hub caps as the back axle is double wheel. Go on - invest in new hub caps!
