Suet
We are taking our two Springer Spaniels to Spain on the Brittany Ferries Portsmouth-Santander crossing in February. They have crossed the channel on the Dover-Calais route many times and are happy with that as they stay in the motorhome but they have to go into kennels on the boat this time. If it's choppy round the Bay of Biscay will they be comfortable with decent beds in the kennels on board? Are the kennels cleaned between crossings - anyone know? Anyone any suggestions as to how we can make them as comfortable as we can? Thanks.
ALAN G
The Brittany Ferries website has a Virtual Tour of the Pont Aven showing the kennels, which at the time the video was made were un-occupied. There is a note saying that the kennels can be visited at any time during the crossing. The Cap Finistere doesn't have a Virtual Tour, neither does it mention kennels. But they claim to have Dog Friendly Cabins (4 berth with porthole) whatever that means. We don't have a dog but noticed the above information when choosing a cabin. There doesn't seem to be anywhere on the booking form where I can opt for a cabin that hasn't recently contained a dog. >:-) We are using the Pont Aven in March coming back Cherbourg to Poole ...now the Barfleur is back. P&O always gave us smooth crossings on Biscay. Fred Olsen didn't, but then there was a force 12 off Finistere. (in November) Santander has a lovely sea front, almost as good as Bournemouth. Have a good crossing.
Suet
Thank you for the information. We couldn't get the crossing with dog friendly cabins at the time we are going to Spain, so had to book Brittany Ferries, who have the kennels on board. We would have been happy to have the dogs with us overnight, but understand your reluctance to stay in one if you don't have dogs! We'll keep our fingers crossed for a calm crossing (both ways), both for us and the dogs.
