Pc Plod
Hello, I have fitted a pair of Varta semi traction batteries to replace the duff ones on my timberland endeavour.I have had conflicting advice regarding the fitting of gas venting tubes. Can anyone enlighten me whether i need to do this, the previous batteries were Numax and did not have any vents fitted.
Derek Uzzell
This recent thread http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=22208 refers to Varta 80Ah sealed 'wet' batteries, and I assume these are the same as you have fitted. (It could be helpful to have Varta's model number (D41?) to confirm exactly what you've got.) Assuming that your batteries are housed within your motorhome's living-area and that vent-tubes can be fitted to them (on the other thread Brambles recommends venting the Varta battery, so that will be the case), then they should be vented. If the location where your batteries are housed were already well-ventilated (eg. if they were in a ventilated compartment sealed from the motorhome's living-area) then venting should be unnecessary.
