cliffwoods
2 years ago we bought a 5 berth Swift Suntor 590RS, thinking that the grandchildren would want to come away with us. We were wrong of course. Although we love the vehicle we've decided to go in for a 2 berth, as close to 6 metres as possible. We're impressed with the Autotrail 630, especially the general quality and loo. We don't want a fixed bed as this seems to be a waste of space and disturbing for night-time loo trips. I would be most grateful for any ideas as to other suitable vehicles. We will buy used and try to keep under £28K. Cliff
flicka
Hi Cliff & welcome to the forum.Changing from a Swift Suntor (Sundance) 590RS @ 5.9m long for the Autotrail (Cheyenne ?) 630 @ 6.7m long .See(well within your budget):- http://www.tynevalleymotorhomes.com/auto-trail/auto-trail-cheyenne-630lbYes you change No. of travel seats but finish up with a longer vehicle & retain an Overcab that appears it may not be put to use.Have you considered changing to a low profile 2 berth with front lounge ? (retain ease of parking, cheaper ferries, improved MPG, etc..)Some possible Low Profile alternatives, with a similar length to your existing motorhome .(c6m or less)Autocruise Starfire or WentworthAuto-sleeper Neuvo EKElddis Autoquest 115Swift Bolero 600 EK or Sundance / Suntor 530LPBessacarr 410 or 510.All the above also offer Rear Lounge models without increaseing length too much.I have restricted options to British manufacturers as many European manufacturers do not have front inward facing lounge / rear kitchen models. Derek Uzzell
flicka - 2011-01-19 11:06 PM ...& retain an Overcab that appears it may not be put to use... If I went back to a motorhome without a fixed bed (God forbid!!), I'd want somewhere to store the bedding conveniently during the day. That's where the overcab area comes into its own and it's also handy for storing light but bulky items like folding chairs and tables. In fact, if there's a choice (as is often the case) between having a 'casual use' bed in the overcab area or cupboards, I'd opt for the bed as it's better for storing awkwardly-sized stuff and thick cold-weather duvets/sleeping-bags than cupboards. A £28k budget probably restricts the Auto-Trail Cheyenne 630 choice to pre-2006 vehicle and I think these were around 6.5m-long. The model was available on a Mercedes as well as a Fiat chassis, though asking-prices for the former may be significantly higher than for the latter. Examples of both on: http://www.webbsmotorcaravans.co.uk/motorcaravanDetails.php?ID=690 http://www.practicalmotorhome.com/forsale/used-motorhomes/marquis-motorhomes---lancashire/auto--trail-cheyenne-630/6643
Porky
Perfect 2 berth for us is the Autotrail Tracker EKS. Two duvalays store perfectly into the front overhead locker. Great layout, and loads of storage for long stays away.

ham
Have a look at the Trigano Tribute range they do a 550 or 650. Both good value for the price that the are being advertised at. They have some features as standard not add on extras. cruise control alloy wheels as standard. even tho it is a panel van there is an overhead locker for storing bedding the 650 also as a 3rd passenger seat with seat belt and can sleep 3 at a push see..... http://www.motorhomechooser.co.uk/featured-tribute650-b.php or try the tribby owners web site http://www.tribby.co.uk/ Show season is around the corner there should be plenty of models at these show to look at ..Phil

Mel B
cliffwoods - 2011-01-20 5:49 PM Many thanks to all of you for your advice and ideas. Still looking. Also, any ideas for securing a baby seat in a 2 forward facing vehicle? I assume you mean in the 2 forward facing 'rear' seats that you have in your current van? Your best bet would probably be to ask the 'experts', ie such as Halfords etc who sell baby seats and are supposed to be able to fix them securely in your van - you don't have to tell them that you won't be buying one from them (assuming you've already got one of course!).
