Have you seen what they're making in the States these days?

Just for amusement I had a look at the Winnebago website yesterday. It's interesting to see how some of the latest models compare with British and European motorhomes.

Compare the the View Profile with the Auto-Trail Comanche featured in this month's Which Motorhome.

The Winnebago is 1.2m shorter and slightly narrower! The price of the Comanche as tested was over £73,000. The price of the View Profile (1.6$ to the £) would be equivalent to £76,500 with 20% VAT (I know, that ignores import duty, shipping costs, etc).

The View Profile is based on a Sprinter with 188hp engine and 5 speed auto. It's got full air-con and lots of extras.

And it's got dual slide-outs.

And of course, it's got a third world electrical system.

There's also the Via

Costs just under £100,000 with VAT but looks a lot like a European A class.

I'm not having a go at Auto-Trail, it just happened to be in the magazine and I'm sure lots of people will prefer the Comanche. But it's certainly food for thought and shows what can be done with large scale production.

The Sprinter has been sold in the US for a few years now and the next Ford Transit is also due to be made and sold there. Times are changing.
