fjmike
We were contemplating a weekend away for this week and thought it would be nice to go to Chew valley, lots of birdwatching etc. Phoned up Chew Valley Caravan Site, yes they had a pitch (basic) and although they don't have direct access to the lake its only a short walk to the public access point , they were prepared to wait a bit later for our arrival on Friday night. Then the shock £46.00 for two peeps and a motorhome, how much??. They then try to justify some of the cost by saying that they have looked into the average use of electric per pitch and found that this was £7.00 per night, blimey I reckon even with everything on in my van I would struggle to use this much electric in a week. Needless to say we decided not to pay £46.00 for two nights in January, makes me wonder what they charge in high season for a service pitch, probably the same as a night in a very good hotel
colin
Many sites in popular (and sometimes not so popular) areas seem to be pushing prices up, if this is justified or not I don't know, but £7 use of electricity seems kin high to me.
flicka
There is an interesting thread on "Swift-Talk" regarding the Bath Chew Valley site.http://www.swift-talk.co.uk/forum/topics/bath-chew-valleyIt appears the awards & their populatity has gone to their heads. But if the comment are correct (& I've no reason to think otherwise, as I have not been to the site) their Customer service needs a major rethink and overhaul. david lloyd
Whereas many UK motorhomers relish the idea of going to france etc (rising petrol prices aside) it is little wonder you see few foreign registered motorhomes on sites in this country - they simply will not fork out for the ferry and then the prices our sites charge, the diesel prices and few aire type places to stay. Keith T
My wife and I stayed at Abbey Wood (London) CC site for 9 nights returning home on 21st December.....this was in their so-called 'high season', and the cost was something like £25 per night.....during that time there wer no more than 20 vans at most on any night, and having stayed there very regularly over the last 10 years at all times of the year, I have never seen it so empty. I think we shall be reconsidering, although we do enjoy our regular trips to London. As regards the suggested cost of £7 per night for electric usage....I'd like to see some 'actual' figures to support this......we don't even pay that for a weeks worth of electrics in our flat- not even through the coldest/darkest period of the year.
