Hobby Decals

I wonder if anyone can help.

We were fortunate to buy a new Hobby Toskana exclusive 750 FLC IN 2008,from Lowdhams Leisure world. On delivery, we noticed that the lower body champagne decal was damaged and were promissed a new complete side decal to be fitted.

Two years down the line we were still waiting, ( Hobby extremely poor at supplying spares). Eventually Lowdhams agreed to have the lower bodywork sprayed to match the decals. This unfortunately was not very good as the paint has white streaks all over it. Lowdhams have agreed to rework the areas concerned. Last September I had a small argument with the brick pillar outside our home while moving out of the drive. I claimed on my insurance, and work duly started in September 2010. The reason for me writing is that it has been impossible for the repair workshop, a large well regarded repairers called Hilton coachworks of Bishops Stortford, to get new decals, that is the champage and bergundy decals on the rear quarter below the the lights. They have exhausted the suppliers they know. Does any one have a contact for decal suppliers that can match colours, as I am desperate to get my wonderful motorhome repaired.

Thanking you in anticipation, great magazine.

Cant help with a reccomendation for your specific area but I would suggest that anyone who does signs / van lettering in your area would be able to design and supply whatever you need. You could even design something better than the original maybe. Have a look in your yellow pages.

As far as I'm aware a 2008 Toskana's lower rear bodywork would be conceptually similar to my own 2005 motorhome's. The aluminium 'skirt' would be spray-painted and the longitudinal coloured 'stripe' above the skirt would be a decal made from sticky-backed plastic. My Hobby has a silver skirt and a blue 'stripe', while yours has the alternative champagne skirt and red 'stripe' colour scheme.

Companies producing adhesive decals for vehicles won't normally be faced with having to match exactly an existing colour - they will have a wide selection of colours to choose from, but not necessarily the exact colour that Hobby chose to employ. You might try this specialist company

Hobby's current website suggests that the champagne/red combnation is still an option so (in theory at least) you might still be able to obtain the red stick-on plastic stuff from the German factory.

I assume you've tried contacting the Hobby factory yourself, or asked some of the current batch of UK Hobby agents if they can help. Have you tried the UK club?

(I suspect that Hobby has rolls of this stuff, but can't be bothered to cut off a chunk to send to the UK. As you rightly say, Hobby has no great reputation for UK customer-care, especially when paintwork-related problems are involved.)

Just a thought - either on a thread or in a magazine I have read of a company that makes decals for small aircraft They will work from photos and sizes to match existing. The motorhome owner reporting this was very pleased with the quality and price.

Now this would be really helpful if i could locate either the magazine, the thread, or name of the company. However you could try hunting around on google - or maybe this will prompt someones elses memory!

Sorry

The recommendation to find a good local signmaker is a sound one.

I had two areas of my Hobby repainted last summer and needed replacement Hobby signs to keep the vehicle as original. A local commercial signmaker matched the original decals exactly in all respects for a reasonable price and in good time.

In the event that you live anywhere near South Lincolnshire, I can recommend these - http://www.bailey-etchells.co.uk/ A rudimentary website but a good service.

On a previous thread

Christina is renovating a 1987 Hobby and there were various sources mentioned

If you do decide to get some decals for the van these people look to be a good source, i think it's where the manufacturers get them made ?
Not looked at the prices though, good Luck,

Having difficulty finding the Company I was thinking about, (may have gone with the recession) but this site enables you to design your own, maybe from a photo ?

Once done you should be able to get a local Graphics company to print

Hopefully we will hear regarding progress from Christena soon.

There's a company in Saffron Walden that does graphics for aircraft and motorhomes, called the Signs Graphics Company. Web address is www.thesign.co.uk telephone number is 01799 599996.

Apparently an Autocruise Starburst owner wanted new graphics and took the motorhome to them. They photographed and measured the graphic. One week later they put the transfers on (both sides) and charged £100.

That sound like its worth a phone call.
