All time high Aire price?

The Aire at Brugge (Bruges) is €22.5 per night including electric, but not including water or dumping during the spring / summer months. It drops to only €15 per night in the late autumn / winter.

It is in a good location on the ring road, but €22.5 per night!!!

Does anyone know of a dearer Aire?

Does anyone know of a cheaper Aire for Brugge near the centre?

PS the address of the Aire is: Motorcaravan Park, Off ring road, Buiten Katelijnevest, R30, Brugge

Dam expensive but convenient, the nearest camp site is further from the town not very good & 25€.

Do watch out the 22.5€ is for 24 hours from11:00 am to 11:00 am. Depending on how long you are staying it can work out cheaper in the parking opposite (I think that's where the old air was) no servicing there so if you need to service you will have to pay the 22.5€.

Brugge is indeed a lovely place to visit, with loads of interest in the centre and an extensive canal system.

There does seem to be some parking opposite the entrance to the Aire, on the ring road, but it also seems 'unofficial' and I don't know how long one could safely park there before being moved on.

When we visited in late May, the Aire was being well used, but it does seem eye-wateringly expensive and to charge for water and toilet emptying on top!!

Does anyone know of anything better with good access to the centre of Brugge?

There's free water in the coach car park opposite, where you buy the ticket to leave.

Expensive, but so convenient for the city. We walked back and forth a few times, so saved paying for expensive food and drinks when out and about.

Hi

A number of years ago, our daughter was working in Bruges and we had a delightful stay for three or four days (without our campervan). We thought the city was wonderful. On the basis of this visit we went again last year, this time with our camper for a two or three day stop. We arrived comparatively late at night so had to park on the coach park next to the aires (which also is a glorified car park). The prices were so ridiculous we completely abandoned the idea of visiting Bruges and left early the following morning. If you study a map of Bruges, you will see that it is impossible, with campervan or car, to park anywhere without paying extortionate prices!

Yes, we found the free water by watching a coach driver filling up. But and it is a but, this water is for coaches and not motorhomes. We used it and were told-off by a man in the kiosk near to where the hose was connected. We filled up anyway as I was so disgusted at the cost of the Aire not including something as basic as fresh water.

In 2007, we parked for 3 nights in the free railway station car park at Aalter, which is midway between Brugge and Gent. Then you can jump on a train to either! Fares: E3.80 each to Brugge, E6 to Gent. Then we parked free at Asse railway station (NW of Brussels) and caught the train into the city, E5.80.

Hi,

Yes it is high but it is a victim of it's own success. It is very difficult and expensive to police an Aire, especially one that is so popular. The authorities had to find a way around the French and Dutch moving on late at night or disappearing early in the morning before the gendarmes have had their chocolate and rolls. Hence the barrier and card entry system. The next thing they had problems with was people staying for a week at a time. Answer hike up the price (lol) It just keeps people moving. Many Aires that are close to centres of tourism will adopt this approach eg Barcelona. We have seen the popular resorts on beaches working towards this in France. A number of skiing resorts also adopt a similar system whereby the daily rate increases as you go through the week. It allows more people to use the facilities. As with anything nowadays you are part of an exponential increase in motorhomers in europe and unfortunately we will see more of this sort of thing in some areas.

Keep em waxed..................... Ned

stayed here years ago, before it was upgraded, and when it was free,

as already stated - a victim of its own success

great spot - always popular - but it was abused when it was free

good luck to the good burghers of Brugge - it is an excellent spot well placed for a beautiful town

BUT it is very touristy - we normally head for Ghent instead

:D :D :D :D

Thanks for the suggestion, we will give it a go :-)

I think you'll find the aire at Barcelona is dearer than 22.5euros & you get noise, filthy toilets & showers, intermittant Wi-Fi & large lorries backing in & out.

It's convenient to the city and secure. Luckily we have a shower and toilet in our MH so never need to use facilities on our travels.

I suppose if you haven't got a toilet/shower, you're at the mercy of the providers.
