g3ttc
Details of 2 useful FREE Belgian aires we used in the summer of 2010 when we were en route to, and returning from, Germany and further afield. 1. Near Eupen, 25m E of Liege, not far from the German border. (motorway A3, junction 38) Take the N67 SE out of Eupen (Monschauer Strasse), and shortly after leaving the town take a left turn into Langesthal (road name)at a small 2-exit roundabout. After several miles you get to the Barrage (dam) De La Vesdre. Cross the dam, turn left, go up the hill into a large flat car park. You can legitimately park there overnight. Quiet with walks nearby. 2. Another barrage(dam): Barrage L'eau d'Heure, 20m S of Charleroi, 10m W of Philippeville. Off N40 road. (there are other barrages nearby) 50deg.11'30"N, 4deg.22'42"E. Large level aire beside reservoir. Rudimentary facilities for emptying toilet, water tap. (hard to find: look for low brick enclosures near first aid post.) Cafe and information centre nearby. Excellent walks, popular leisure facility. We found both of them in an old Aires book. Hope you like them!
Geoff Tuckley
Thanks for that. Looking at going to Germany this Spring to do the Moselle Valley for the first time. I have noted what you say.
