bob b
If you can find a camping shop, have a look for a portable 'pump up' shower. They are like the apparatus for spraying weed killer on the plants, but with a shower head. I've still got one in my loft that I used in my camping days 'under canvas. They hold about 15 - 20 litres. Brian Kirby
There are campsites open, some even with heated shower blocks. To take advantage of these you need to plan your route in advance, so as to pass them by.As you haven't, your best bet will be to use the old fashioned method: boil water, tip it into your kitchen sink, add cold to taste, pull down the blinds if you're modest, and have a good wash down. Are you really saying you haven't washed since you started posting on here, or is this a wind-up? :-)

Derek Uzzell
If it's just a hot shower you are after, then you could try the Relais Routiers restaurant chain as a good number of these places offer shower facilities for lorry drivers. Might cost you a couple of €s and you might be expected to buy a meal, but it's an option. As Brian says, there are French campsites open all-year-round. They are highlighted on the Caravan Club's "Caravan Europe 1" maps, though there's no certain guarantee that a site open through the winter of 2009/2010 will be open through the winter of 2010/2011. Alf Stonehouse
Indeed there are a very few campsites open, they tend to be campings on a working farm or 5 star open but for work in progress, The private star rated campsites ive looked at offer wi-fi,which isnt working and showers which are off in case of frost the "star rated" costing from 17 to 23€ without 240v thats 5 to 16€ extra 8-) The "farm" campsite cost around 7€ pn plus 6€ for 240v & its very hard to convince them i have an efficient heater and an over supply of solar energy :-D :-S The pump up garden shower is far to weak & needs to much pumping its also to large for storage France dose have a good range of deodorants :$
AliB
As an alternative to a shower try Sports Wash. It is alchol based. Pour some on to a flannel and wipe over body. Available in all good sports shops. Or make your own with some cheap eau de cologne mixed with 50% water.
BGD
Dunno if it's the same in France, but in Spain a lot of the motorway service areas have a shower cubicle in the Gents toilets, for the truckers. You have to ask at the till for the key usually, and (I believe) pay a euro or so for the shower. Or try the town swimming pool. Or get friendly with a neighbour.......... Alf Stonehouse
I thought about the autoroute but a "truckers douche" 8-) I did at one time spray me with window cleaner :-(
catinou
I was going to suggest the showers at motorway service stations but if all else fails - why not try "baby wipes" (unscented of course... ;-) ) We use them if short of water and used to when we had a boat too - they work well for up to about a week at a time before you feel the need for a good shower. We also wash hair the old fashioned way - with a cup, a sink and hot water from a kettle. Is it due to a problem you have no hot water or no provision for heating it? flicka
Hello AlfYou certainly seem to be having a few fun & games getting to grips with your new Van. Don't worry, learning by experience help problem solving in the future. Not sure what Motorhome you have, but hot water systems have been fitted to many Vans for many years, so do you have a system onboard ?It would be useful to forum members trying to answer your requests, if we knew what make model & year your Van is.The easy way to do this (so it shows against each post), is to go to the "Control Panel" (above right) & enter the details in the "Location" field then save.Good luck with your travels & enjoy. Alf Stonehouse
:-S My new secondhand "van"began its travels together resembling an ice block,Luck that the grey water tank(which has frozen several times since)was empty My fresh water tank however wasn't so lucky :-( Since its defrost the pump works but the pressure switch dosnt :'( The drain valve seal is also defective so much so that 20 gallons of fresh water drips out within 4 days, :-( :-( Still having a great time in France, bought 1st quality truffels from a truffel market last weekend, the president of the truffel org France & the deputy were directing traffic *-) :-) Id arrived at 6.30am & moved to a church parking about a mile along a dead end road I asked them about truffels & was amazed how knowledgeable they were even to the point of advising who was selling the best truffels B-) It was only later when i saw there photos in the local paper(distributed free that Sunday that i discovered who id been talking to 8-) 8-)
