:-S Ive only had my camper since December and been using it since January,im still getting to know my camper

In the beginning i tried 12v but it didnt cool(though outside was freezing)then i tried with gas but again no cooling,i even tried on flat ground *-)

Since ive found several aires with 240v my fridge works in fact it works so well when on No7(max) it froze the salad :-( And has remained cold for several days without 240v

Its an electrolux i do feel it ought to work with gas at least,as it works with 240v

What can be wrong?

Alf - what Phil said.

The idea is that when you're driving around you switch the fridge to the 12 volt setting; the engine (alternator) powers the fridge compressor.

When you park up and turn the engine ignition off, the 12 volt power to thr fridge is cutoff......this is to stop you flatttening your engine battery within a few hours (which is what would happen if your fridge continued to draw its power from your engine battery).

So if when parked you are on electric hookup ("EHU"), you have to change the fridges power source to 240volt.

If not on EHU, then change the power source to gas. As I understand it, some much more modern fridges than ours have auto-ignition when switched to gas. Ours is venerable and ancient (1992), and doesn't.

What we have to do is turn our gas bottle valve on, then (if we've not used gas for several days) light a burner on our hob for a few seconds (to draw the gas through and purge the pipework of air); then turn the gas knob on the fridge to the big flame symbol and hold it in to activate the igniter (you cab here the tick tick as it tries to light. Once lit, continue to hold the knob in for about another 5 seconds to allow the safety thermocouple thingy inside the gas flame to get hot enough to keep the gas valve inside the fridge open, then let go of the knob.

Remember, if you have any covers over the fridge vents outside the van, to take them off before trying to light it.

Remember also to turn gas knob to "off", and 12 volt switch back to "on", before you drive off again.

If the outside temperature was sub zero at the times you tried gas and 12 volt operation and you don't have winter covers fitted then the heat source is insufficient to boil the liquid ammonia mixture in the cooling circuit. there have been numerous complaints about three way fridges not working in the extreme cold we have had this winter.

Oh :-S I have tried the gas when we had a few days warm weather ill try again .

Yes i did wonder if it would only work with 12v when the engines running *-)

I never drive very far i suppose i have to make a long journey? For example later i will move to another aire for water then another with free220v then to Toulose via several stops

You might wonder why? Well my exhaust is about to fall apart 8-) The camper was sold with the exhaust "bodged"with fiber wrap wired on and two pipes to make a 90° turn 8-) :-( *-)

I have a French Renault chassis for which renault dont know which exhaust to fit :-S Yesterday i was at the main dealer in the end the cheif mechanic sent me else where & they said i would have to know exactly which parts i need

No one carries stock & ive already had to by the exhaust that is ment for my chassis but dose not fit at all :-(

So short journeys and never to far away from an aire i can remain for as long as need be? But where to find one?? I cant answere the questions correctly on the French Renault forum
