I'm not an expert, but the rule of thumb seems to be that your average 60cms dish will work down into France, 2/3 of the way down roughly.

The bigger the dish, the further you can go. The link I put up will answer more in depth. We've only used ours in Northern France, no probs at all.

Hi again,

thanks for all this been a great help.

Always up early but today had to take 10 year old for an operation on a tooth, they attached a bracket and chain that they are going to use to gradually pull the tooth into place. Sounds really painful I know but she is here and eating and drinking all she can with no pain at all. :-D :-D

Am watching a few of the dishes now and have till Easter to sort one out.

Mandy/Andy, rather than spend good dosh on a TV and then compromise with a cruddy aeriel, get on ebay (£40 ish) or Lidl and get a boxed satellite system.

You'll thank me once you've got the hang of it I promise.

Martyn

I doubt you will thank him when it's raining, blowing a gale, or you are parked under trees or behind an obstruction!

Faffing about getting the dish spot on at home on a fixed location facing SSE in daylight above any obstacles is one thing - doing it in the dark in the rain and wind on a site at ground level is quite another!

And then when it's night nights time you have to go and get yer dish back in the van in case some low life nicks it under cover of darkness!

Much easier to take a few dvds with you for when the Freeview won't work!

When we did our trip to Spain, to lighten the load we chucked out the telly with a load of other stuff *-)

But we did the rounds of the charity shops buying DVD's to play on the laptop, unfortunatly Sue wasn't to impressed with some of the films :$

Funny thing was there was only one rated over 18's, I'm amazed at what peoples kids are watching 8-)

By the way Martyn, thanks for that website link, I think I almost know what I'm thinking about now(lol)

If you want to keep your equipment to a minimum.

You can get a dongle to fit your laptop & use that as your TV.

The dongle fits a USB slot & M/H ariel fits to dongle.

Saves doubling up, but depends on viewer width for screen clarity.

May be worth considering, if you have payload or storage problems.
