Madmaggott
I know this has probably been discussed many, many times before (I have certainly just re-read quite a few threads) but I'm sure I have come across a link to a comprehensive data-base once before on one of the forums. Can't seem to find it now though! Have I imagined this; I seem to remember a data-base where one could enter a town and get the details for vets thereabouts? Similar to an on-line phone book. Does this ring any bells out there please?
starvin marvin
No I don't. Why do you want one? practically every town has a vets practice. Just try not to use one too near the coast or you will pay for it.

smifee
I used to use vets in Calais but now just go to a vet in the town/village I'm in at the right time. I ask the price before making an appointment to have it done. All have had a scanner. Cheapest has been 36 euros dearest 85 euros but that was when I'd miscalculated and had to use a call out vet on a Sunday :$
David Dwight
We have used vets in Nth East France near German border, also Switzerland never had a problem with the Passport, the Swiss vet was very effcient. We had to go to a vet in Croatia last year and he scanned our dog just out of interest. David

Yes they do. We've used vets mainly in France but also in Germany, all know what to do and all have a scanner. We've a printed glossy card from DEFRA which has an explanation of what is required in various european languages. We just show that to the vet and its done. Simples. I would also be glad of a card such as this as my language skills are basic to say the least, I certainly don't feel competent about explaining the scheme in French! As this will be our first excursion with the dog along I don't want any problems to arise.
Guest pelmetman
We took our pooch for the first time over at Christmas, and although we have driven back with the old mans dogs before, you never feel that you have dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's until you do it with your own pooch :-S We found the process quite simple with the chunnel, and the vet we used in Brittany was fine, it cost us 55euro's and in the price we got 3 extra frontline pippets, which are more expensive in this country :D You just need to get your head round the not before 24hrs and less than 48hrs :-D

starvin marvin
Mel B - 2011-02-07 9:37 PM Marvin - how do you obtain the DEFRA card please? :-S Apologies, its not from DEFRA its from and I quote from the card.... "Produced in the interests of animal health, by Merial A.H. Ltd, manufacturers of RABISIN" The card is roughly twice the size of a credit card and has the flag of 6 countries, 3 on each side...UK, Germany, France, Portugal, Spain and Italy, against each flag there is an explanation for the vet, (or sometimes more importantly the vets receptionist!!) of what is required to be carried out. This is the company that produced the rabies vaccine used on our dog. Have a word with your UK vet, they may be able to point you in the right direction. We have found the card extremely useful, you don't have to say anything else, only smile, pay up and look happy. Trust this helps
maggyd
I have never had a problem not being understood :-D but there again I only use the one Vet at Marquise because it is near enough to the Tunnel for me to get the dogs done and find a stop for 24 hrs until we depart, but I would think carrying your Pet passport on display is enough ! when I ring up I ask in my terible French Palle Vue Englais (even my spelling is terrible) they always put someone on that speaks English and the Vet does, I also mostly take my Frontline and Drontel tab but not always I just make it clear I dont want the injection as my dog (this year dogs) are tiny, but a lady on Escalles site who had a Sheltie I recommended the Vet, her dog had the injection no bother.
