swiftcruiser
Hi does anyone own a cyclematic ebike folding electric bike .It seems exceptionally good value perhaps too good, looking for an inexpensive folding electric book to use when out and about with motorhome not everyday and this bike seems to tick all the boxes
dream machine
Cheap junk non descript with a small old technology 24 volt battery - lithium ion & sold only on the internet. As some one who sells electric bikes - if you're going to buy one then buy from an established brand with full technical & spares back up - preferably from a 'Bricks & mortar' Electric bike specialist shop and definately not from Amazon / Ebay / some other general 'net' seller. Even cheap! is not cheap if after 5 minutes you can't get it fixed & have to scrap it because you can't get parts. generally speaking each make has their own parts NOT usually compatable with another. Reputation & quality is everything when buying an E-Bike. Whisper are excellent - Freego are a good small company i've dealt with - powabyke also been around years are 3 Brands I suggest
Mel B
Before you buy any electric bike, see what it is like to ride without the electric power assistance ... some of them are not very easy at all and folders can be even harder.

swiftcruiser
Now you know why I'm struggling as thought cyclematic seemed too good to be true, but appears to have good reports from more than one forum. Publicity would imply lots sold !!! however no reports from owners at this moment of time from these threads so perhaps not many sold or a lot of embarrassed people don't want to own up to having purchased one of these fold up e bikes!!! dream machine
Anyone considering an Electric Bike should have a good look at the info on http://www.atob.org.uk/Electric_Buyers'_Guide.html a real wealth of Info & Test Reports. Another tip - find out what make the Electric motor is on any Bike you are considering - they all LOOK pretty much identical from the outside - but what's the quality & design of the actual components. Suzhou Bafang Electric Motors seem very highly rated & they come from Singapore not China. FREEGO Electric bikes http://www.freegoelectricbikes.com & CLAUD BUTLER Electric Bikes use them - they are shortly launching a Folding Electric Bike to add to their range http://www.falconcycles.co.uk/Corporate/CB/GlideFolding.shtml I don't know which other Brands use them though. How Much
Forget leccy bikes, get a conventional 'folding', and keep the weight off! ;-)
Guest JudgeMental
How Much??????? - 2011-02-20 3:35 PM Forget leccy bikes, get a conventional 'folding', and keep the weight off! ;-) Your missing the point. electric bikes flatten those hills and make cycling a pleasure again. we used folders for years and would not go back! rather have teeth pulled without anaesthetic! *-) also if you use e bike for exercise you still lose weight? probably more, because you are inclined to use the bike more.......They are not a moped or scooter, you dont sit there doing nothing? you still pedel...... I quite agree JudgeMental ------- especially for people who are past the '1st flush of youth' like myself (ie. late middle age). You're far more likely to go using one for greater distances & not worry about struggling on the hills either ! :-D A good E-Bike is really worth the investment - a cheapy is almost certainly NOT - and is better avoided in the first place as it will probably turn out to be a total pain ............ just like many of the BSO's people buy from Tesco for instance :-( BSO = Bicycle Shaped Object - - what the Cycle Trade call the crap bought in boxes at so called 'Bargain Prices' which are actually such poor quality they are ONLY fit to go in the 'SKIP' 8o|

I appreciate not everyone has the 'legs' for pedaling anymore - hence the leccy version. Rest assured, im not too many years behind! ;-)
Colin Leake
I'm planning to get a good quality folder and mount a small gas turbine jet engine on the carrier for use on hills or when I'm in a hurry. Much more exciting than an electric bike!
Zyroman
Hi, not sure if I am allowed to do this but I work in the bike industry and you will find a couple of solutions but I am afraid, as others have mentioned, you get what you pay for and neither will be cheap. folding bike manufacturer Dahon produce a bike called Boost which retails for £2K, another option is a kit from a Company called BionX which you can fit to some folding bikes but again this a premium product with top quality batteries and the facility to recharge it when going downhill, the kits start at around 1K. sorry if giving this advice upsets someone! Guest JudgeMental
as well as the above, there are some really nice folding electric bromptions, also E Motion (sold by OnBike) have a folding Panasonic bike that is also very nice and would probably be my choice for a folder or a Wisper? which have strong hub motor and are comfortable bikes. best have a look over and ask questions on pedelec forum
