PJay
Thinking of going to Menin Memorial. I do not have a map of the country at the moment, so not sure nearest camp site. (Have Acsi) The CC europe 1 does not cover Belgium Any one been? All views welcome please.
Robinhood
I know many years ago MMM did an article covering this, and recommended a campsite. The closest one I can find is http://www.jeugdstadion.be/ ....which is very close (and I suspect is the one that MMM covered). HTH
PJay
Robin Thank you looks like near enough for us. Need to get a map of Belgium now, to plan a route. Still have to decide if we will use the tunnel "(free" with Tesco Vouchers) or go our usual crossing from Portsmouth. It takes us as long to get to Folkstone as it does to cross to Cherbourg, as we are five mins from the port.Need to work out fuel costs, as we need to get to Brittany afterwards PJay
lennyhb
Nice little municipal site but only has about 13 pitches + tent areas I think it has just been upgraded, 2 years ago it was 5.50€ inc electric. You can stay overnight in the leisure centre car park which is just behind the site.
Guest pelmetman
Is that the same as the Menin Gate where all the names are inscribed and I think they play the last post every night? Its a long time since we went there but its very moving, also the museum at Ypre 8-)
PJay
Looked up the site Camping Car Pitch 18 spaces 12 euro Touristic pitch 22 places 6 euro (Maybe more like an aire) 10 min walk from the Menin Gate Looks pleasant. Don't know Belgium Once sailed boat to the coast, people were very helpful then. Still need to work out costs, before we decide PJay
Tony Jones
We stayed there a few years ago, it's ok. And unusually, the 10min estimate of the walk to the gate is realistic for a non-Olympian!
spospe
We have stayed at: http://www.jeugdstadion.be/ many times, most recently in September 2010. The site has been upgraded during 2010 and the price of €12 includes 10 amp electric and showers. It is 10 minutes easy walk to the Menen (French) or Menin (Flemish / Dutch) Gate, where the Last Post is played every day at 20:00. You need to be at the Gate at least 20 minutes before 20:00 to get a good spot.

breakaleg
If you turn left immediately before the menim gate as you enter the town or right if you leave town through the gate.Drive down the road as far as you can (no through road now) you can stop a couple of nights parked on the road, no one disturbs you and other vans stay as well, just a 10 minute walk (and I use two walking sticks to hobble around on) Pete

twooks
as for your routecan you do a split crossing - say to Ostende / Dunkirk and then back from Cherbourg??don't know which ferry companies operate down sarf - but if the same one has both routes it may be easier ???
