celiaoldham
There are 2 axle weight plates under the bonnet of our Swift Suntor. One is from Fiat, the other from Swift. There is quite a difference in the maximum weights allowed. Which should we use and which do the police check? We are new to motorhoming so would appreciate some advice. Robinhood
You would normally rely on the converters (Swift) plate under these circumstances. It appears to be conventional (but not always followed) to put a "stage" or progressive number on the second (third, etc) plate to show what order they have been applied. My current van has a Hobby plate with "stufe 2" (stage 2) applied under the bonnet, showing it was the final one applied. A previous Rapido had three different plates! It is more normal for the MAM to vary from the standard base vehicle, rather than the axle weights, but some manufacturers (and I think Swift have been one in the past) have "tweaked" loadings by changing things such as tyres, to higher rated items.
