Interior colour schemes are a matter of taste, other things like whether or not a van will judder and why are more subjective and worthy of discussion; this is not. Extending the period before changing a cam belt is no more than a lottery and the only loser is you so don't risk it or worse still, don't fill impressionable people's heads with ideas that smell like wisdom from people that come across as experts and are no more than chancers that may have been lucky in the past. Before deciding, consider the consequences. If you can afford that, and the inconvenience that goes with it; take a chance but you would be pushing your luck every day you drive.
