We have to be in Brecon for a few days at Whitsun bank holiday and thinking of bringing the camper and having a few days on the Welsh coast.......Can anyone recommend some decent enough campsites? CC will do as long as convenient *-)

We go to Pembrey quite often and have found that, even if the website said it was fully booked, if I ring them they take the booking.  I think they just leave a few pitches vacant or something.

Try ringing a couple of days or fewer before you want to go, for last minute cancellations.

It is a great site because of the park next door; wonderful for the dog and/or cycling.

Another site in a very picturesque setting is Fishguard Bay; set on the cliffs overlooking the harbour and right on the coastal path.  The bus passes on the main road at the end of the (quite long) drive, handy for Newport, Fishguard, St Davids, etc.

Pembrey is ok but go a little further,Tenby is fab,2 nice sites with great views are Trevayne in between Saundersfoot & Tenby & Windmills which is walking distance into the town,Tenby has 2 great beaches with super clean water, nice shops & pubsclosest CC site is Freshwater East but it is a bit out of the way.If youre into surfing you really should check out Newgale, stunning beach, cheap campsite across the road from the beach and a nice pub (with camping in the carpark),St Davids is just up the road with its stunning cathedral, superb site with great views & excellent facilities is Caerfai bay or CC site is Leithyr meadows with Whitesands beach just a stroll down the road and loads of places to explore on bikes eg Porthgain harbour.....if the sun is shining theres nowhere better, hope you enjoy it.

If you're in the Caravan Club there is a great CL called 'Glantowy Farm' (51.86169, -4.13073). Really quiet, individuals bays with great views.

There's the 'National Show Caves of Wales' (51.83211, -3.68064) which is a brilliant day out AND they have an excellent camp site on site again with great views.

Whilst in South Wales don't forget to check out the Llanelli Wetlands and Wildlife Trust http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit-us/llanelli (51.66502, -4.12453).

Another good place to visit is The National Botanic Garden of Wales (51.83861, -4.15103).

. . . . and somewhere where you 'may' be able to get a booking on the Gower is http://www.carreglwyd.com/ (51.5443, -4.21056).

Hope this helps and gives you a few ideas?

PS.  How come some people's posts are black and some are a crappy grey?

So that's why there's a motorhome passing, every time I look out of our kitchen window. *-)

Thanks again everyone! Th CC gets on my nerves with their stupid booking policy that encourages block booking in advance...easily remedied if they took a deposit :-S

Try the Gower, lovely cl there, also lots of sites, or travel up to Gwynedd starting at Aberdyfi following along the Cambrian coast ( giving Barmouth a miss perhaps depending on your likes and dislikes), but lots of nice sites with sea views all along that coast all the way up through Porthmadog, and beyond to Abersoch. Can't imagine a need to book as there are so many to go at ;-)

We think that Barmotyh has a lot to offer (preferably out of High Season). There's a super site (Hendre Mynach) and wonderful walking and cycling - including a superb flat surfaced route to Dolgellau. If you enjoy mountain or coastal walking and easy cycling there is much to do without ever moving your van during your stay. There is also an interesting Fishermen's Reading Room near the harbour which is open to all. If you wish to go father afield without using your van you can travel from Barmouth by train.

The views of the Myddach Estuary and valley from the bridge are truly wonderful sites to behold. You can even walk across and, if you time it right, return by train. Alternatively continue your walk to the point and return by small ferry or even walk to Fairbourne, take a narrow guage steam train to the point for the ferry.

We were well impressed with North Wales when we went last year, and will go again when we get the chance :D ...........As for sites we liked the Min Y Don site at Harlech (CC affililiated site) a few minutes walk from a lovely beach and not far into Harlech it self, although a steep up hill walk :D

Sounds like the Gower would be just what the doctor ordered then, no shortage of sites, and some CL's with Rhosilli being the icing on the cake, on a nice day the views from the pub on the headland are stunning, also some lovely walking too. Some roads a bit tight, but not too much of an issue with our PVC. Swansea not too far down the road either. :-)
