santana007 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Brambles - 2011-05-01 5:12 PM Brute force!!!!!!!?????? LOL .... I have tried that , it's just snaped the old lnb , and given me nothing to grip on .. i had mole grips on it , not sure what the next move is ... Maybe the bin :$
Brambles Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Sounds like you will have to cut away the plastic until you can release the horn from the LNB flange/dish. I don't expect you have a series of very large drills, so a blade it may have to be. I have a knife blade which fits my soldering iron and probably would do a good job of cutting it away. How about sticking a red hot poker down the centre of horn to melt the plastic inside the flange and soften it enough to allow you to break away the tube inside the flange so it can be removed. I assume the new LNB came with a horn. If not then I am not sure what you can do.
santana007 Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 Hi m8 many thanks for your replies , sorry i have been slow getting back to you , My Dad died a few weeks ago , so we have had loads to sort out .. The lnb didn't come with a new horn .. where would i got one from .. Again many thanks for all your help so far it is very much appreciated Rog
Brambles Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Hi Rog, Sorry to hear you dad has died. Not an easy time. As to the dish, is there anyway the snapped horn could be repaired and bonded back together. I am not sure, but it might be possible to unscrew the thread by turning the dish itself against the LNB mount/boss as this will give more leverage, Also apply heat by pouring boiling water over the boss to help loosen any glue. I have done a search and cannot find a replacement horn but does not mean there is not one somewhere or are available. Hopefully someone else knows. Jon
santana007 Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 Cheers Jon The horn is fine , it's the lnb that snaped while trying to unscrew from the horn .. The lnb needed replacing , got the new lmb , but the horn won't unscrew it is solid .. I will give the hot water thing ago .. ... i have looked for spares , but no luck either ... :-(
Brambles Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Ahhhhh! so as you are replacing the LNB there is hope yet. Only use your hands on the horn, and wearng rubber gloves will help give you grip. Take it easy so the horn itself does not snap off. If you can localise heat, even using hot water on the flange a few times, it should hopefully unscrew. A trick sometimes is to try tightening slighty 1st which sometimes can be an easier way to break a seal between surfaces.
santana007 Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 Well , the hot water is the next step .. i have never known anything so stuck fast before .. i will let you know how i get on over the next few days Rog ;-)
