After many years of passing through France 'like a bat out of hell ' en-route for Spain, this time we are planning to spend a few days in the loire valley either to the East of Tours or round Saumur and would appreciate info on any nice aires or municiple sites anyone knows in the area. Preferably within a short walk of a small town/village/hamlet.

Also we need a stop over north of Bordeaux on or near the A10. Any and all ideas welcome.

many thanks

It's a lovely part of France! We've used the Aire at St Clement des Levees which is very scenic being right on the banks of the river, and not far from Saumur.http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/neilmac500/_MG_3977-1.jpghttp://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/neilmac500/_MG_3974-1.jpg

Hi Terry W,

North of Saumur have stayed on aire at La Fleche. Lovely situation on side of river and in town, but next to main road so some traffic noise (free services and free wi-fi from site over river). Further north is aire at La Suzie-sur-Sarth, again near river but much quieter and with electric hook-ups for 3€/night. South of Tours is the popular aire of Ste-Maure-de-Touraine, just off N10. Often stayed here, not too much road noise and town worth a wander round (free P+S), and found free wi-fi in main square.

Re stops round Bordeaux, then north, and not too far from A10 Mortagne-sur-Gironde is very nice, next to marina and hook-up is included in the 7€/night fee. A favourite of ours however is S.E. of Bordeaux, off the N113 at Cadillac. This is an interesting old town with a really good market on Sat am. Aire is free to park but services are now charged and hook-up no longer free; but aire is an easy walk into town centre.

Thanks folks, that gives as some ideas to look at while we pace up and down waiting to go. 'Ste-Maure-de-Touraine' is a favorite site we have often use as a first stop after the ferry on the way to Spain.

Hi, Stayed on these over the last 4 weeks, few pics to wet your appetite,

The Aire at Broglie N49 degrees 00.325' E 0 degrees 31.783' south of Bernay is very nice, in a beautifully, kept village, only 5 euro.

We stay at Mortagne quite a lot as it is about 1 hr from our house. The fees are now €7.20 night and includes all services and free WiFi throughout the port. We were there last week and only found out about the free WiFi the day we left, we were parked at the top end of the Aire and the WiFi reception was excellent.
