Hardly a surprise considering everything else going up ,and of course the sites themselves will have increased costs as a result, even Aires some of which were previously free are now making charge. :-(

We used some ACSI sites this year when touring the old DDR and found that often the site was charging a "Kurtaxe" of between €1-50 and €2-50 per person per day in addition to the site fees.

This "Kurtaxe" is a local levey and is used to fund the cleaning of beaches, maintenance of footpaths etc. It is not ACSI's fault that the charge is collected, but it does put up costs in a sneaky sort of manner. Something to be aware of :-S

Nothing sneaky about it, they charge tourist tax in France in addition to fixed fee. If you read the ACSI book it is quite clear this may happen.

I suspect this is going to happen more and more as local councils and national governments try desparately to find extra ways of raising revenue. In Forence for instance all accomodation (hotels, B&B etc) are going to levy a new "tourists" tax. I don't know what it is, we will be going in September to visit our son who lives there. Sign of the times I'm afraid*-) *-)

We have had some excellent stays recently on CCC sites for £8.30 and £5.55 per night (admittedly at the Age Concession price and without EHU).During May and June we spent 45 nights touring Scotland, including the Orkneys and the Shetlands. Apart from one site in Kirkwall (where hard standing with EHU and superb facilities cost £18 per night for 2 people) and one CC site we NEVER paid the equivalent of 15 euros. IT WAS ALWAYS LESS!We keep a record of total expenditure of our main holidays. In 2010 in Europe the total cost for 7 weeks was £2300.44. In 2011 our Scottish holiday of six and a half weeks was £1677.70 and the cost per night for campsite fees was £6.67, taking into account free nights. (Yes it is possible in UK).We enjoy Continental travel and we enjoy UK travel. I don't really know why some people always seem to insist that foreign is better. However, it may mean that such people do not use UK sites so leaving room for those of us who do.

Were those cheaper costs were due to the economic law of supply and demand perhaps?

No - some sites were very busy whilst others were less so; in fact much as we have found in European travels at the same time during the last 4 years.
