Base vehicle repairers (Fiat)

Earlier this week my OH clipped the back of a lorry, damaging the front of our Fiat based coachbuilt. It is currently waiting to be assessed by our insurance company but as we are in the remoteness of West Cumbria we cannot find a body repairer who is on the insurers (Equity Red Star) list who will deal witha motorhome. We contacted a place in Leyland, Lancs but they apparrently only deal with conversion repairs! The added complication is that we were takng it to meet someone from a firm that was buying it off us when the accident happened.

Any advice gratefully received, we have contacted the Caravan Club who arranged the insurance but are beginning to think we have an unsuitable policy if they do not have an accreditied repairer.

First, what does you policy actually say about accident repairs?

Among the van documents you should have a list of Fiat commercial garages. I suggest you contact the one nearest to you, and ask them to which accredited firm they would send their body repairs to to maintain its anti-corrosion warranty. Then speak to the repairer about working on a motorhome, explaining that the damage is to the (presumed) cab only. If they are OK to do the work, contact your insurer and explain they are the nearest, are accredited, and you are happy for them to do the work. If they refuse that repairer, they should then accept it is their responsibility to arrange to transport the van to whatever alternative firm they choose.
