Don Madge
I'm looking for house/contents insurance for leaving the property unoccupied for up to 180 days at a time. The house is checked regularly by our next door neighbour while we are away. Any info will be most welcome. Regards Don
arthur49
The Camping and Caravan Club offer Home Insurance for up to 180 days. Not sure if that's total days in a year or max single stay away. I'm pretty sure the Caravan Club offer the same. The standard 'unoccupancy clause' is 30 days. We are with Aviva and they extended that to 60 days without extra cost or conditions. I suspect that additional requirements may be required, if not already fitted, such as burglar alarm for single stays up to 180 days. Insurers may also get their knickers in a twist about possible water damage and frost and insist on system being drained down etc....................I used to be a Claims Manager but don't hold it against me! spospe
We have used RIAS in the past and all they asked for was a weekly check (someone entering the house to check) and water to be drained down if the trip lasted into the winter months. Not done this for a few years, but perhaps worth a phone call?
Don Madge
Thanks I got a very competitive on line quote of £209 from the Post Office. This was for building and contents cover for 180 days away. Don
new to the game
Try Fresh Insurance brokers we have dealt with them for the last 3 years, we usually have 90 days hol beginning of the year and about 70 days sept. We have someone who checks the house weekly as required by insurance company.
