Could any off you wise people help a friend of mine,he has a autotrail chieftain 2011 model the warning buzzer for the side entry step stays on all the time.He has taken this to Brownhills and they cannot find the problem, also the vehicle battery is losing its charge.

He is thinking of going to the factory because Brownhills inability to solve the problems that is a 400 mile round trip.

Hi Derek,

It sounds as though the switch on the back of the step mechanism has failed or got stuck and then the step does not switch off the power (and buzzer) and so is flattening the battery.

As a quick remedy try opening and closing the step a few times to see if it can be cured that way, but only as a temporary measure, it will need fixing properly once the true fault is identified.

Be very careful if working on the step as it may move of it's own accord and easily trap fingers or worse.

Keith.

Is there a fuse box behind the drivers seat, it will be very small if there is and you will need a pair of long nosed pliars to isolate the circuit thats causing the problem until you can get it fixed. Sargent Electrics might be able to offer some advise as it is their system that is fitted.
