leezy2
Any ideas for an AC unit for a small VW trident? Cannot fit the Waeco units that seem popular as there is not enough flat roof space. I really want a unit that will run both from the hook-up and whilst driving. Thanks, David
DABurleigh
Waeco ones aren't that big, so you may be struggling unless you go for a Telair Bi-split system, but they are expensive: http://www.support-telecogroup.com/telecogroup/telair/en/prodotti/splitbiPower7000H.htm I nearly bought a DC Airco system from Roadpro, as the spec/ efficiency seemed very good. However, Murvi had doubts given its provenance as the Sunny Airco, which they had found disappointing. http://www.roadpro.co.uk/images/level3pdf/DC%20Airco%20brochure%20web.pdf I went Dometic mains in the end running off an inverter when mobile, but I imagine that is the same size or bigger than a Waeco. http://www.dometic.com/templates/Product,2325,2425.aspx Dave
Dave Newell
There is one potential problem with running air con units from inverters, whether it be purpose designed like that (Waeco for example) or not. The air con unit wil require a lot of power, for example the 1500Watt AC/DC unit from Waeco takes around 75 Amps when running on 12 volt and this current has to be supplied from the alternator. Modern vehicles usually have at least a 90 Amp alternator fitted but this is the peak current available from it. If you run any machine at close to it's design limits for a sustained period it's life span will be significantly reduced! If you want air con while you're driving then buy a vehicle with engine powered air con. If you require air con while on site then invest in a straight forward 240 Volt air con system. This is only my opinion, D.
Yorkshire Tyke
Air cons are normally only available to run in one situation i,e, either on 12V or on 240V However I do know that Ebberspecher Make a heater and an air con that run off diesel and so can be used both on site and when travelling There are other makers of diesel heaters and thy may now also produce an air con system
Dave Newell
I've just been on the Eberspacher website and I can find no mention of air con running on diesel. Could you enlighten me as to model number please Yorkshire Tyke? I'm quite fascinated as to how it works. D.
enodreven
Hi, It may be worth looking at B&Q for there small units for the home to use when you are on hook-up, and can you get a VW unit fitted to the engine for use when traveling ?? David Dwight
Hi Yorkshire Tyke and Dave Newell. We have at work a Cirtreon Relay mini bus, it is fitted with a Erbespacher diesel heater, the Air con is Erberpacher but runs of the 12volt as far as I know. Both work very well. in the manual which shows various models of Air con it does not show a diesel model. David
