Netbooks

No disrespect, but seems awfully cheap. Most netbooks seem to start around £190 even in the so called bargain outlets. I have looked at them as a lightweight method of getting internet but for a few pounds more you can get a laptop, which is probably a lot more powerful and not much heavier.

Possibly a refurbished one can be obtained at a cheaper price.

I am afraid I still use my old old laptop which is so heavy I need a barrow to wheel it around and so slow I can have tea while it is warming up, but it does work. Until prices get a bit more reasonable I am stuck.

By the way, if you are only looking at a limited amount of use then internet cafes can be a cheap source when travelling. Just do not put your banking details on there.

I use an ASUS Eee PC 701SD series netbook computer to continuously run my weather station and associated website. http://tamworthweather.com

It is not the fastest machine in the world (900Mhz) with a small RAM and a 16Gb solid state hard drive and a 7in screen. The netbook comes complete with XP OS, USB ports, ethernet port, WiFi, bult-in camera, microphone and speakers. Programmes include Microsoft Works and Skype.

The cost via an eBay auction 8 months ago was £64 including all the original packaging, discs and instruction mauals.

It would be ideal for emails, Skype and internet searches, etc but it is not big enough to load and run other software.

Hope this is useful.
