PJay Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Ive noticed that many of the posters from the past (Contributers to this forum) are no longer posting. Thankfully some of the "awkward ones" no longer post. Have they all deserted? or is there to much trivial posting now? Used to always be useful Posts, related to MH and trips made. Maybe they just look, only now? It used (IMO) to be chatty and there seemed to be friendships formed. I noticed the other day that a "New" person was added, who I am sure was a poster, not so many moons ago, Can you rejoin with the same name?? It is so useful to read helpful advice, given by the few very helpful people who take time and trouble to help others
Randonneur Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I think a lot has to do with the slanging matches which have been going on and when a post is made someone then posts a very negative and not helpful diatribe. I put a post on recently and was shot down in flames immediately. My post was giving a different side to the subject in question. I think that there are still "old" posters that have a look but can't be bothered posting because of the negative attitudes of some members of this Forum. Feel free to shoot me down in flames, I have a very thick skin. Sylvia
art338 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 PJ, Many of the 'older' posters will not converse with the new ones, I've asked sensible questions of several and never received a reply, there was about a year ago a set group who were 'exclusive' to each other and 'outsiders' were barred. I believe they used to meet at shows so knew each other well. There were some who's aim was complete rudeness to anyone who disagreed with them, it was a pity the administrators did not ban them straight away as it prevented all the good ones from contributing. Fortunately there are some excellent story tellers about who detail their tours very well, I believe Klyne was one when he visited Northern Germany, and I do hope that MelB will do the same after they return from Germany. Our wise friend the Minister is another good one for stories but he's a bit quiet recently, possibly busy mowing the Churchyard. Then there was farmer fred from Cornwally, he's likely dropped off a cliff or got himself run over by his own tractor. art
nightrider Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 This chatterbox forum states that this is where you can chat about anything and everything, tell jokes or just pass the time of day in coming out with idle thoughts and spats do break out and can get quite vitriolic then the mods step in. if you want to hear about othe members trips to wherever or you want info on something technical then I would suggest one of the other forums otherwise you might end up on the chatterbox battlefield (lol)
Dave225 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 It is a similar thing on many Forums. A group of people either know each other prior to joining, or then form strong relationships to such an extent that whatever they say is geared to their ‘mates’ and derides anyone who dares be contrary. You can read a thread and find over half of it is one liner ripostes to each other. Wonder why they do not just e mail each other and it does tend to make you switch off. I sometimes wonder if it is the same group using different usernames on each Forum. You also get the so called ‘technical expert’ who knows everything there is to know about everything and never misses an opportunity to tell another poster that they are ‘wrong’, or give you a long winded story outlining all the facts that ever were. Sometimes they actually may be in the ‘trade’ but from their input, they have seen everything and done it all, and probably have the T shirt. OK, I appreciate advice that is constructive, but to be told that what you think is correct is basically b......t and they know best, does on occasions grate a bit. Most of us have managed to get through life by making mistakes, and learning from them and may not be ‘experts’ but certainly can survive in the big bad world. I do agree that listening to someone’s opinion, may or may not be appropriate and one certainly should never rely on anything you read in a Forum as being true fact. But it is easy to be swayed. A bit like the thing that man in the pub told you, must be true...............? The other reason some Posters may be ‘quiet’ is that they have said their piece and become bored and moved on. However, that means more room for the rest of us........
nightrider Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I come on chatterbox cos i talk too much (lol)

I am well aware of the scenario that you describe above, and have been monitoring it for some months. At least two of us have (independently) decided that enough is enough. We have challenged the opinions of quite a few of the members of this cabal, and have met with unbelievable hostility for our pains. Unfortunately for them, we both appear to relish the cut and thrust of reasoned debate, something most of them are not capable of, and this has fazed some of them into silence. Rudeness and hostility from 'senior' posters? - Bring it on! :D
Guest Tracker Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 What a strange and antagonistic attitude some of you seem to have? Those shoulder chips must be one heck of a burden for you! It is true that the forum is not the same as it used to be and many long standing members are conspicuous by their absense - but in life nothing stands still because everything either adapts or dies! Of course there are members who are friends and who know each other and who visit shows together or in a group. What's wrong with that - surely nobody can resent friendships being formed? Isn't that what forums are all about at the end of the day? It is still a good forum in my view and I have learnt a lot and I continue to broaden my own knowledge base whilst from time to time I try to offer limited help with the techy bits but unfortunately most of my techy info is a bit out of date these days! There are now so many members better qualified than I and with more relevant experience and I think we all owe those true experts a vote of thanks rather than a moan? Then there is the 'dark side' of the forum - Chatterbox! It used to be a place of general discusion, light hearted banter and general silliness. It could get heated at times but didn't often get nasty but now it seems to have become an on going ego contest which is spoiling it somewhat.? However as with all things hopefully this phase will pass and it will either get better or it will get worse! Lighten up fellas and go with the flow - life's too short to be bitchy and you won't change anything by moaning!
Usinmyknaus Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 They peel off, lose the vibrancy of their colours and become tatty at the edges? Oh, wrong sort of poster..... With a little over 4 years on the Forum I am still just a newcomer and spend a great deal more time reading on here than posting, but then I don't really know a lot yet about the technical side of motorhoming compared to the Grand Sages. I post when I think I have something useful to say, based on experience garnered to date (or occasionally when I delude myself that what I am posting is appropriately amusing in the circumstances) and I am happy with that. I too have noticed names which were once familiar have tailed off and even disappeared, but I suppose that is a similar pattern to "life" and "death" of active membership in any club or association. Guest pelmetman Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I only joined the forum to practice my triping........ and now I can type tripe as well as the best of em:D(lol)
nightrider Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I am not sniping at anyone in particular namely francis and lowie, but if they are as highly educated and intelligent as they say they are, why are they bandying words with people who they obviously think have a lower intellect than them? Whats the point and where is the satisfaction in that? I think lowie and francis are a little miffed when no one took a real interest in the plight of the starving in east Africa. A thread that ended up being taken off by the mods.

Tony Jones Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I think they're all still around, stuck watching computer screens which keep saying ...... "Waiting for response from outandaboutlive.co.uk" :D :D
Brambles Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Well chaps and chapesses, my reason for not posting so much is being on holiday touring Europe from France to Slovenia and then on my return having to fit a new heater matrix in the Fiat Cab. That is one big job and pleased the dashboard is now all back togther again. Yes, I did have one screw left over but last night found where it went...fortunately easy to get to. So is anyone has a leaking heater matrix in their ducato 02/06 I can probably give adice on how to change yourself. (Don't)
Guest Tracker Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Welcome back Jon - you haven't missed anything whilst you were away! I too changed the heater matrix on a Boxer several years ago and, if it ever needs doing again, I too will pay some other bugger to do it next time! As you say, it is one heck of a job and it took me the best part of two days - and I too had a screw left over!
Brambles Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Hi Tracker, LOL screw, the screw goes to right of dash above the small pocket below vent!!!!! Found where the missing screw went eventually. The screws where a nightmare there were so many and reassemble just one bit in the wrong order and you have to take 3 steps back to fix.
mendipman Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 :D Old Posters with a screw missing.............?? (?)
Hopesy Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I got fed up with the speed of the site and the petty bickering of some, so i left a month ago! :D
