Ipod Nano 6th Generation and using it via the aux connection

Hi All

I thought this would be worth posting.

I have two 4th generation Ipod Nanos which I love, I use on in the van permanently which doesn't have a radio on and the other which does to walk with the dog. In our van we have a proper Ipod connection/dock station in the glove box which we had done when we purchased the van at VW. I bought Hubby one for the car recently which my cunning plan was to connect it into the stereo via the aux plug in the central console glove box - a well known method of listening to ipod music and I even tried my other one in there, no problem at all.

Log on to Apple, find that the 4th generation is outdated and now on 6th which is not only tiny but touch screen. Ordered said Ipod with engraving for wedding anniversary and waited for delivery.

Arrived, loaded music, bit on the small side size wise but hey ho marvelled at the modern technology only then to discover that there is the most dreadful hiss when plugged in to the aux lead. Frustrated and annoyed, I then did further investigation.

Having looked at the forum on Apple site is it a common fault and some stereos it will not work at all, we get the music but with such bad interference that it is horrible to listen to. Interestingly it works fine in the proper ipod adapter in the van.

Apple's opinion - if it works ok with ears which is what we provide then we don't give a fig about in your car.

I am waiting for delivery of a lead which has ipod at one end (30 pin) and aux at other to see if that will help - one of the suggestions on the forum. I have no grounds for returning the item.

I have two options

1. I pay audi shed loads of money for the audi adapter or use on of the other companies you see on line to have it done

2. I give him my old ipod and have the new ipod (not so keen on the new one as love the old one)

so I thought it was worth mentioning just in case some of you were thinking of going down the same route... it's a common problem.

We have a 5th Generation Ipod Nano and had a similar problem. We had a Kenwood radio/CD with aux in the motorhome but when we plugged in the Nano with the appropriate lead it wouldn't work. Got onto the Kenwood website and that particular radio was not compatible with the 5th generation Nano, so we finished up buying a new radio (cheaper in the long run). Why these radios have aux sockets then will not work is beyond me. In the car the Kenwood radio says Ipod Direct but we were told not to bother with that and to use the USB/Ipod cable.

Hi , bit of an update, sorry for late post been away on a jolly.

We got the ipod to aux lead and thankfully it (touch wood) works perfectly.......

However you can't alter anything via stereo and have to charge it separately, but hubby seems to be happy with result so hopefully sorted.
