Big brother hasn't got a sense of humor(lol)

I think it's due to the overactivity of the Thought Police.

Anyone entering Chatterbox should know what to expect, the jokes will be off white (nothing wrong with that) and disagreements will occur.

The problem these days seems to be the dumbing down. Nothing can be permitted which would offend a saint, none of whom I am or have been acquainted with. I bet Tony can tell us of saints who were anything but saintly in their physical life.

Donna's Joke did not offend me. I passed to my sister who,by now, will have passed round her wide circle of friends. No, that isn't a euphenism. Whoops, that'll be next for the chop!

Personally I think some folk need to get a life. IMHO it's well worth it!

This forum is completely open anyone of any age can view it, so it little supprise that some threads are deleted.

I'm a member of a shooting forum where on the open part even some of the threads allowed would be deleted, but in the members section it's much more 'no holds barred'

Posted

I always thought it strange that a whole thread would be pulled, rather than just removing any "offending" post.. :-S

Having said that,I suppose as it's "their" forum(..which we use for free),"they" can operate it as they please... ;-)

pretty simple like me and Tracker

See - there you go agin Antony - you just can't resist it can you!

I'll have you know that it should be 'like wot Tracker and I is' - didn't you lern nuffin at skool?

Anyway if either of us were bright enough to be even as sharp as simple I wouldn't have minded being insultated again?

What was the question?

I suppose the problem is that on a forum with over 14000 registered users the moderators have to make a judgement about what the majority may find offensive, or just plain crude.

( But you'll never get everyone to agree with those labels).

It's their forum, with their name on it, so I'm quite happy to let them moderate it.

Well ..... since the word "saint" in the Bible is only ever used as a general description of EVERY Christian, that certainly includes some VERY imperfect ones. So I'm sure you're right Julie!!!

Perhaps as well as 'chatterbox', there should be a section called ' jolly nice place to enjoy intellectual conversation with ones own class of members'

Access to which would be by nomination only, and a vote could be taken by the existing members as to whether the nominee is accepted.

You mean like an online version of those "gated communities," where you can't buy a house unless the whole neighbourhood approves of you (after interview)?

Sounds pretty boring to me.

Donnas' idea of segregating the " classes" might be a good idea.

We could have separate forums / threads for:

The ' dog loving classes' and the 'non-dog loving classes'

The 'panel van' class and the 'coachbuilt' class

... and to avoid a lot of controversy we could even have the 'class' who like aires separated from the 'class' who prefer sites.

The possibilities are endless.

But, as Tony says, wouldn't it be boring.

Donna's Joke thread.

I was informed by the moderator that two jokes that I had posted there had been removed and reminded me of the rules and conditions of membership, so maybe I was the cause of the whole removal.

Sorry guy's

I can see how that would appeal to you, Donna.

Your bigoted diatribes would go unchallenged - bliss for you. :D

On this public forum, though, that ain't gonna happen 8-)

How would you describe your 'class'?

I like the idea of that, even more so if I was the only house in said gated community :-D

Just a couple more things lowie,

I don't know whether you believe I am impressed by your constant badgering, or whether you believe it upsets and bothers me, in both cases you are very wrong.

The other thing is that you seem to have paired up with your friend and have on several occasions made sarcastic, patronising and downright insulting comments about my suggestion of a water pipeline to aid those in Africa.

You may have found my idea amusing, in fact between the two of you, you have ridiculed it, to the point where you may even have found something to keep bringing up to prove (in your own words) my ignorance and stupidity.

Yes you rightly pointed out the largest refugee camp was 500 kms away from a water supply.................

Perhaps you would care to explain then, how Libya manage to pump water across 1000s of Kms of desert using, guess what, A Water Pipeline.

Let's see if you are man enough to issue an apology with the same gusto you dish out ridicule and scorn.

Donna , would hot air been blown down the pipeline pump the water ? Shame we don't know a couple of guys who could generate enough power purely through talking who could provide said power . Second thoughts too much hot air may melt the pipeline . Just a thought .

As usual I totally despair at your thinking process. Your idea was to pump desalinated water from the coast to the camps and to use solar power to provide the energy for the pumps. It was pointed out to you that desalination is the most expensive method of producing fresh water, but still you persisted in your nonsensical ideas.

No one has ever suggested that pipelines cannot be built! Here in the UK we have built water pipelines of great length. Over a hundred years ago water began to be pumped from the Lake District to the industrial cities of northern England.

Anyone can build a pipeline for God's sake! There's nothing clever about that if you have the money. What we derided was the whole stupid theory of building a solar-powered pipeline to pump desalinated water 500km! Show me where I once aid that you can't build pipelines! There are pipelines even longer than this one carrying oil and gas across most of Russia!

However, I am very grateful for this link because once again you shoot yourself in the foot!

This is from your link:

"The Great Man-Made River, as the largest water transport project ever undertaken, has been described as the “eighth wonder of the world”. It carries more than five million cubic metres of water per day across the desert to coastal areas, vastly increasing the amount of arable land. The total cost of the huge projectis expected to exceed $25 billion (US).

Consisting of a network of pipes buried underground to eliminate evaporation, four meters in diameter, the project extends for four thousand kilometres far deep into the desert. All material is locally engineered and manufactured. Underground water is pumped from 270 wells hundreds of meters deep into reservoirs that feed the network. The cost of one cubic meter of water equals 35 cents. The cubic meter of desalinized water is $3.75. Scientists estimate the amount of water to be equivalent to the flow of 200 years of water in the Nile River.

So there we have it! If you're an oil-rich Arab state and you have 25 BILLION dollars, you can build a 4000 Km pipeline, so yours from the coast to the refugee camps would only cost 3 BILLION dollars!

But the best bit is the sentence showing the relative cost of desalinated water! $3.75 a cubic metre as opposed to 35 cents for this water, which is from aquifers.

So that's Donna Miller's solution to providing water to East Africa folks! A pipeline costing billions, that will pump water costing10 times more than water extracted locally from aquifers.

And you want an apology? I don't think I've laughed so much this year!

Well, at least you've had a thought. That's a slight improvement I suppose.

I have a very good sense of humour, but the difference between you (and a couple of others) and me, is that I know when humour is suitable, and you won't find me polluting otherwise sensible debates with infantile and puerile cr*p.

An embryonic sense of humour maybe:D.........not quite fully formed, and a bit heavy on the sarcastic side with no sign of any ability to laugh at himself yet;-)...............but its a start(lol)
