Is anyone else amazed when people, who must have some sort of intelligence, ask such ill considered questions as 'I'm thinking of taking my Caravan/motor home/tent to England/Scotland/France/Spain/Europe for a holiday, where's a good place to go?

What are their interests, have they carried out any research, how long, when, family? kids? dogs? How do people expect us to get inside their minds, the choice of a Site is usually because its close to where I want to go, so if I'm off to Germany , I park in Belgium etc.B-)

P.S Yes the spelling is atrocious, the Grammar is laughable, and I was educated in the state sector so I expect to be barred from everywhere except Hints and Tips, because of my greasy fingers, table manners and choice of wine.

Retread,Don't worry about your spelling or grammar or that you were educated in the state sector as long as you dont fall foul of a certain screwball who haunts and upsets this chatterbox forum.

As for planning a trip:D..........We don't do much beyond deciding on an area we want to visit if crossing the Channel, we have never booked sites ahead.

Unfortunately you can no longer do that in this country during the main season:-(.............

When we did Cornwall a couple of years ago in June we just booked the weekends ahead, and took a chance midweek which seem to work ok:D

I think you are right. These people must have "some sort of intelligence" - quite a lot of it I'd say - because they've all got motorhomes or tents or caravans. (lol)Trouble is they just don't phrase their questions very well. :-|

PS the state sector was perhaps a little disingenuous.

What I can not understand is why anyone replies to his self-centred, bigoted posts, so right on, anti fascist, pro?

I thought at first that he was just another member of the old school tie club quite happy on holiday in his panama hat and regimental tie, complaining volubly about johnny foreigner, but his invective seems to disprove that, a lonely, mean spirited sad old git.

The only way to deal with a lonely knocker is to ignore him , which I shall when he posts here ;-)

As an old street fighter I cannot resist a scrap.

My pre planning for our first trip to France consisted of buying the ferry tickets, a Michelin Green guide 'Camping et Caravaning France' and stocking up on emergency corned beef.

Best holiday we ever had   B-)   (We bought our Michelin yellow atlas in Calais)

If you are really interested in some kind of harmony, and ensuring that spats don't go on for ever, don't you think that it would be wise to stop this obsession with me, where you start entire threads just to have a go and, as in this case, carry on your bile into totally unrelated threads? It's a bit like being stalked!

Anyway, I'm genuinely sorry if I've been 'haunting' the forum.

KOTR - 34 months, 2540 posts - average of 74 a month.

FG - 8 months, 272 posts - average of 34 a month.

So how about giving it a rest eh? Argue with me in a thread by all means, but keep it to the thread and stop these silly playground antics of sniping away behind the bike sheds.

We know how tough you are and that you're a 'street fighter', mainly because you tell us all the time, but you're not fighting, you're gossiping like an old fishwife to anyone who'll listen. Give it a rest please.

Oh dear, another one who complains about 'invective' and turns out to be as full of bile as anyone. It's interesting to understand how you know so much about me from my political views. How do you know what my lifestyle is, or my profession, or my friends?

Anyway, I'm really sorry if I come across as 'anti-fascist' to you. I always thought that was a good trait. You'll fit in well with the Chatterbox BNP Club!

By the way, if you did have a private education I think that you've a good case for damages. Let me know if you want any advice. ;-)

Dear Francis Graham esq

I notice that you have taken some exception to my posts, Why? Nobody mentioned you. If you have nothing constructive to add please post elsewhere.

Interesting! To whom were you referring then? If you tell me that it wasn't me then you will have a sincere apology. KOTR was certainly referring to me as he is a bit obsessed and I assumed that you knew who he meant.

I'm sure that you're not the kind of man to hide behind anonymous insults, so do please let me know, then I can say how sorry I am.

There is a generic , ridiculous poster who seems to think that he /she has the right to stifle free speech, I sometimes believe that the posters of this ilk yearn to belong to the feudal classes but due to a failure of birth find themselves constantly slightly outside the core and thus are terribly keen to insure that they toady to the 'U' line. These sort of people, small town solicitors, accountants, bank officials i.e Capt Mannering, cannot stand any argument that brings into question the status quo.

There are several of these individuals that stalk the fora I am happy to contribute to and it was to the generic (it's not nice to insult people) I was referring. I assume that you include yourself in this category?

I would not accept your 'sincere' apology, having now read some of your earlier diatribes I don't think I could bring myself to shake your hand.

As for political affiliations, NO, I would not be seen dead with the BNP but I do believe 'Dave' would have joined in coalition with them had there been a UK 'tea party' :-) And as to my education, sadly even with the sex, drugs and rock and roll I still managed to survive! Though how I still can't understand.

I do believe in the right of self expression, as much as I might find the views distasteful, that doesn't mean that I am prepared to see harassment of posters for their views.

You don't need an education to survive and prosper in the UK but you sure as heck do need a sense of humour and oodles of common sense - oh yes - and a thick skin helps a lot too!

Having graduated from the School of Hard Knocks and the Saddam Hussein College of Diplomacy some time ago, I am still studying at the University of Life.

Trouble is that by the time I have learnt all I need to learn I will be too flippin old and creaky to use any of wot I've learnt - perhaps I should take on a young apprentice and teach her - although I doubt the wife would be too happy with that idea?

Oh well back to planning some more trips then I guess!

Sorry, I don't believe you and I think that it's a pity that you weasel out of what was a direct attack by talk of a generic poster!

I believe in free expression too, which is why I am willing to challenge those whose beliefs I find offensive. I don't care if you're a socialist or a right-wing Tory. I do care though if someone is a racist bigot and I will continue to debate vigorously with anyone who expresses views such as those expressed in recent threads.

As for your assumptions about what I am, I find it interesting that you claim to know all about me! The stereotypes that you mention are much more likely to be in the right-wing bigot camp than I am. Anyway, I can assure you, you are way out!

Your attack wasn't generic, you knew to whom KOTR referred and it's a pity that you are so cowardly as to wish to hide behind such a feeble explanation that will fool no one.

One thing that I am never guilty of, unlike a few on here, is making snide attacks from the sidelines. Now that is real harassment! If I've anything to say to anyone, I'll say it to their face (metaphorically speaking of course).

It's a pity that you didn't and it says a lot about you.

What happened to moderation and a clean slate then?

Francis - please note that this is NOT an attack on you - just a friendly opinion designed to try and restore tranquility before the moderators get totally brassed off and start chucking people out!

Please - have you ever considered answering in a less aggresive style and maybe with a dash of humour - tongue in cheek and self depracating work well on here?

It might make your postings more readable and we could laugh with you and not at you?

I know you didn't start this spat but come on man you must surely know when you are being wound up and opt to reply accordingly?

After all you are the one with superior education and word skills - allegedly!

Can everyone else please stop winding FG up and give him the chance to calm down and become normal - whatever normal might be?

PLEASE.

I'm sorry Tracker but I'm heartily sick of the ones who will insist on continually poking away in threads that I'm not even in, or even, as KOTR has done three times, started a separate thread simply to have a go at me.

I suspect that, like you, I'm quite happy having a decent argument, but I loathe people who won't debate face to face so to speak but, during a totally unrelated thread bang on about me, or oldlowie, simply because we've clashed somewhere else.

This thread is a perfect example. It was nothing to do with me and I wouldn't even have entered it as it was of no interest, but good old KOTR could not resist yet another snide attack, and here we are again.

You will note that I take part in very few threads and am not interested in putting forward my opinions just for the sake of it. I only take part in debates about which I feel strongly.

Every time a thread seems to have died a natural death, and I'm as happy as anyone for it to do so, along comes someone with an old grudge and starts it all over again, just like this thread.

I appreciate your input and your efforts to bring some calm. I am happy to go along with that if only certain people will stop the attacks from the sidelines.

I'll still argue with you in a debate but I will not attack you anonymously, or by implication. That's cowardly and causes more rows than the debates themself.

Anyway, the reason that I'm here this weekend (I'm normally out climbing on Saturday and Sunday) is that I am, by coincidence, planning a trip myself and am going to France on Tuesday so you'll have a rest from me.

I sold my house in Lot et Garonne recently and, as I'm sure often happens, sold it furnished to someone else buying a second home. However, I've lots of personal stuff that I need to bring home and the motorhome and its garage will be very useful!

Time for a truce, I need some peace and quiet in order to prepare myself for another operation in september followed by 18 sessions of radio therapy after which I will not have the strength to fight my way out of a paper bag.
