We are off to Germany next week and intend to make a stop at the Trier Stellplatz. Never having been before or used a stellplatz can anyone tell me how the token system works or how one pays on them?

Thank you B-)

Hi,

On the Trier stellplatz, you enter thru the barrier and take the ticket, on leaving take you ticket to the payment machine, pay for the services you have used and then drive up to the exit barrier, enter your ticket into the slot, and off you go.

With regards to the "services", if you wish to use Electric, Toilets and obtain water, you have to charge your ticket at the appropriate point, I cannot remember off hand what all the charges are as we only ever overnighted at Trier, and it was roughly Euro 6.00 between 18.00 and 10.00.

If you google up Stellplatz Trier you will find the leaflet and the charges should be on it.

Dont let Trier stellplatz put you of thinking they are all like that, no way, just mosey on up the Mosele and you will find no end of stellplatz's all cheaper and no hastle with barriers etc.

Do enjoy your trip, we always do

When we took a boat trip up the Rheine recently we noticed a great deal of Stellplatz all situated right on the banks of the river and if not in the town/village they were within walking distance. There were loads of them although did note that they were primarily on the West bank (Belgium, France side ;-) )

We looked at it last year, briefly, but wasn't too impressed. The facilities all looked fine but it was the giant funfair next to it that put us off. We anticipated deafening music and microphone shouting until god knows what time at night. It's also very isolated and not close enough to the Rhine with little in the way of a view. There are MUCH better places to stay in the area which are actually on the banks of the Rhine and with very nice views.

If you're only stopping there to visit Trier then why not use the adjacent car park and walk over the bridge and into town. Although it's a flat walk it is 2 miles to the main square. Doesn't sound much but walking along a straight road being passed by endless traffic it seemed more like 7 miles and seemed to go on forever.

Just our 2p worth.

Hi, As explained already, take a ticket at the entry barrier. Find your pitch. Take the ticket to the pay machine and load it with some money, say a 10 euro note. take the charged card to the water tap to get water, and to the electricity outlet to get electric to go live. When you leave, go to the pay station with the card and pay any balance due or get any refund due, then take paid up card to exit barrier and away you go....simples!

Of course , you dont have to use the Aire behind the barrier as there is a large parking area before you get to the barriered bit, and when we were there it was very well occupied by motorhomes, presumeably non paying cos they didnt require water or hookups. I didnt see any carpark payment poin but maybe I missed it.

we used the barriered bit to get water and hookup.

enjoy your trip.

What is all this talk about the Rhine, have they moved Trier since I was last their? The stellplatz system their is easy, as has been described, but the stell is one I would not go back to. Would consider staying at somewhere like Trittenheim and getting the boat back to Trier. Most stellplatz on the Moselle are simple and someone comes around to collect the money. When we were their last year most seemed to be 7 euro with hookup.

I'm afraid so. EU regulations on a 'need to know basis' it's been moved lock, stock and barrel from the Mosel to the Rhine as it isn't pretty enough to be included on the Mosel.

We toured the Rhine and Mosel last time and know the region pretty well so I didn't question the other post.

You are however, correct in that Trier is on the Mosel not the Rhine.

You dont need to fill up with water on the Trier site there is a fill up area behind the McDonalds in the same area as the stal; 1 eur when we stay there we use the bikes the cycle path walkway runs beside the river and there are lots of bike tracks once you have crossed the bridge into the centre which is worth a visit with lots of interesting architecture.

:$ :$ Last time we were there in May I managed to Bu--er the machine up!!! O.H. pulled into the left lane instead of the right when we were leaving >:-( WHO put the ticket back in the wrong side???? we had no way of getting out!! I had paid what I owed at the machine on the office 10euro I usually put on about 5 or 6 to cover for electric I use our own faciities. Anyway a nice Belg; couple let us trail them out !! when we went right at the corner one IRATE site manager on his bike stopped us shoting "you have left my place without paying" I managed to appologize and tell him YES we have paid but couldnt retreive our card out ot the wrong side of the bollard >:-( he wasnt very pleased I might tell you but turned around probably swearing under his breath!!

Dont let me put you off just be aware BE CAREFUL which side you pull into!! Im not NOW blonde for nothing!! :-D

I found that stellplatz fine and never had a problem. While you are in the area, the stell at Piesport is lovely- right alongside the river &more like a mini campsite with individual pitches and grass areas for sitting out, bbq etc-7 euros a night when we were there in May
