Amsterdam campsite

The only one I know first hand is Camping Amsterdamse Bos. It's in the wooded area to the south of the city on the N231, but handy for the A9 ring road which looks from the map as if it goes straight to the port.

Not cheap (what is, in Holland??), but good facilities.

We used to use the Amsterdam Bos regualrly in the 80's and 90's when it was owned by Amsterdam City Council. As stated it was next to the Amsterdam woods and was a bus ride into town, although that did take nealry 45 minutes. In htose days it had a shop and bar and was always full of happy campers so a lot of fun.

However, it changed ownership a few years back and is now privately owned. The shop and bar have long gone. It has also decided to attract many of the 'backpacking' brigade and also many who are looking for cheap temporary accomodation near Amsterdam. There are many what one could call chicken coop type chalets on the site. The facilities are reasonable but charge for things like showers. I regret it is a site we will not use again.

We have also used the Amsterdam- Newcastle ferry a number of times and now tend to use the Camping Konigshof site at Katwijk aan Zee just north of the Hague. It is an excellent site and will also take Camping Cheque in low season. It is also only about 1 hour's drive to Ijmuiden for the ferry so an easy journey as the ferry does not sail until teatime. Park at the terminal, walk along the jetty and enjoy fish and chips if you wish

Hi,
Camping Zeeburg is a nice site, it has Bar and Restaurant and good connections to the city and free Wi-Fi. You can of course cycle, or get the Tram No 26 to the Station and trams 7, 14 to city centre. Nice site to relax before heading home.
Regards,
Brendan
