Freecycler or Freeloader

We (as a couple) and also through the business, donate dozens of items to the various Freecycle sites throughout South Wales, our motto is that if we no longer need things, then there are always someone who does.

However, lately, I have began to rethink my involvement with these sites simply because people are beginning to take the p155. Now we all had to start married/co-habiting life with the bare essentials and often relied on hand me downs to get us going, but at least we prioritised what we needed.

The following is a copied post from a local freecycle site, do these people never plan for the future? or is this a sad reflection of the "gimme gimme" society we are becoming........................

As posted, no edits.

Looking for: items for a new home.

bathroom stuff, curtains, kitchen ware, washine machine, tumble dryer, diswasher, oven, microwave, kettle toaster etc., Bed, wardrobe, drawers, plates, alarms, hoover 8-)

it would be easier if you would be able to deliver - we would pay petrol costs or would try find a way to collect. Thanks.

I've used our FreeCycle a few times now. I've got rid of two garden sheds stressing that whoever has them dismantles and takes away.

Last week we got rid of 2 & 3 seater sofa's. It's always hit and miss who has them though. We were lucky because it was a young student couple who are starting at Bristol University and need to furnish a flat they're sharing that had them. The second email I got was from someone who asked me to send her a pic of them. She needed them to furnish one of her apartments that she rents out 8-) No chance missus you tight assed bugger (lol)

Donna, sometimes people need to leave their home in a hurry and can't take things with them so perhaps this is one of those occassions,,,,,,,,anyway back to the real world and yes people want something for nothing. ;-)

To be fair donna,I don't just think it's limited to Freecycle...have you seen what some folk put on their wedding lists nowadays?!? :-S

HA! ..... my Nephew was married about 10 years ago & he used a John Lewis wedding list service. Very pretentious & OTT but we had the last laugh. Somehow John Lewis had put "Slug Pellets" on the list, so that's what we got him. *-) *-)

She left him after 2 years & left a trail of problems behind her :-D

We often put items up for freecycle. I know there are people who take advantage and even those who sell items they are given on E Bay, but my feeling is that often you can see through the requests people submit and know they are out for profit,so I ignore their requests, and any way if I post a free item, I just want it gone and am not to bothered what happens to it once it has gone from me.
