Norway in October

Northern Norway, In October?

1. VERY cold.

2. Very wet.

3. VERY short daylight.

And be aware, if you've not been there before, that Norway is, at any time of the year, phenomenally expensive.

For most consumer items, including shop-bought food, restaurant ,meals, soft drinks, booze of any sort you'll need a mortgage.

It's a very-high-wages-very-high-costs country.

Thanks for comments (even judgemental's terse contribution...I know...brevity is the soul of wit, according to Shakespeare, and the soul of lingerie, according to Dorothy Parker) but moving on.......we want to see the northern lights ...so dark is good....and we are considering a quickish expedition if it looks like a week or so of anticyclonic weather.

Anyone actually been there in October or November?

Hi

We have also been looking to go and see the Northern Lights.

According to my research it's best between between the equinoxes (21/9 to 21/3). My concern was temperature (my last hobby van was good in the winter but not sure about my Autiotrail) but it looks sort of doable end of March as long as we don't venture too far North.

Has anybody been to see the lights and do they have any tips?

Peter

Check out the tyre situation - did I read that you need winter tyres / chains or studs, or did that only apply above a certain latitude.

Its sort of on our wish list, but not sure how or when we tackle it.

If you do make it - let us all know how the winter experience went.
