athiest Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Hi all, my toilet flush system has started to flush out a load of black bits. I have drained it as much as I can refilled with clean water, flushed again, and the next use seems to have cured it, but after standing for a couple of weeks then using it again the same black bits. Can any one advise me as to how I can remove the tank to really clean it? Cheers "A"
athiest Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 Hi All, forget the post, Have just found an earlier post on the subject. It seems that it is algae and seems to be caused by using Thetford pink flushing fluid,as I do. It seems that Thetford may have changed the formula. It seems that changing to Elsan cures the problem. Rayjsj Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Spot On ! The elsan 'red stuff' seems to go farther too, i have also found that the 'Thetford blue' isn't as good as it was either, they have stopped putting Formaldyhyde in it, and it doesn't work as good (need to use more, or smells start). So i have stopped using that too. I get the twin packs from Towsure, Elsan blue still has formaldyhyde(or it did last time i looked). just as long as the EU doesn't poke it's nose in and ban it. (like it has Sodium Chlorate weedkiller !! i have to use 'softener salt' instead now). and Creosote, as usual it's 'so called' replacement is never as good at doing the 'job' , and as for light bulbs and 'Daytime running lights' (i think i have 'an old git' moment coming on !) regards Ray >:-(
