Hi all

Wondering if any body can help me wth this question.

I have a satellite dish on the motorhome that i have bought and was thinking of buying a tv and freesat to go with it. My question is if i used ordinary household 240volt Tv and Freesat receiver would it be safe to use on a motorhome electical circuit or do you have to use a purpose built caravan/motorhome12/240 tv and receiver which looking at the prices seem to cost considerably more money

I would be really only to use it on a campsite hook up in this country. Are there any advantages to buying the purpose built caravan equipment?

Any advice would be gratefully received :$

Thankyou

My (French) Free to air satellite receiver has only 2 pins on the plug i.e no earth, would think that the UK Freesat box was similar so cant see any safety issues while M/H'ing, I use mine with a small inverter if I am off Hook-up and cannot see any reason to change to one of the specialist 12/24/240V options. (My TV/DVD combi comes as 240v with a 12V D.C transformer..........................:-)

Hello,

Some thing that may be worth considering is buying a cheapish "suitcase" Sat system from CPC or Maplins. This should give you a 12v Sat Rx that you will be able to use with your existing dish. (assuming that the LNB is still there altho' LNBs are cheap and easy to get - CPC again)

The suitcase Rx are small in size and can be used on a wide variety of Sats. The dish etc that is in the kit may be useful at some time too.

I am not sure how the existing motorhome dish will be "steered" (pointed) to the correct Sat though so, whatever you do this will have to be taken into consideration. If is uses the "Standard system - Disq" then I would expect that o/p to be available on the Sat Rx.

As above, the TV it'self need not be one of the "advertised" ones. I have been using a mains 15inch TV (powered by a 12V PSU) for five years on the van's 12V without any problems. (Bought from fleabay for £100ish)

For interest my DVD/CD player also from fleabay was a dedicated 12/24v system for about £70ish) Both feed an A/V Tx via a switch with the Rx piggy - backed onto the TV so that I can put the TV anywhere in the van as long as it can get the 12V.

Hope this helps, good luck

Hi

I have recently needed to replace our TV in the van as the sound wouldn't come up for some reason so was looking at the Avtex etc as they seemed to be the best about. However I saw an advert in MMM for Cubik/Cello and they were offering a 12/24/30 volt & 240mains 15.5" flat screen LED digital TV/DVD player for an unbelievable £179.99 including delivery.

I have since purchased one of these and it is superb. The TV comes with Freeview already built in, you can record to USB etc etc and only uses 1.7amps. The delivery was overnight, ordering was really easy and they email you to confirm everything -even to within a 1 hr timescale of when it's arriving!.

Upshot is-you can use this with your sat dish and if you want to watch additional subscription channels you can just take your Sky box from homeand fit an inverter.

Rather than spending a fortune on a 12 volt TV and reciever, I would suggest you check this out first and save yourself some money without losing the quality. Try this link-they have larger models if you need one
