10 years gone , unbelievable . I remember hearing on the radio what was first reported as a light aircraft hitting the tower in what was initially thought to be an accident . By the time I got home to meet the BT bloke the 2nd tower had been hit and from that moment I was glued to the TV .

Having been appalled at the events witnessed on TV the day after I was working near Keighley college . Outside the college there was a large group of asians raising pictures of Bin Laden in the air and cheering and laughing . I was appalled and wound down the window shouting my disgust at them and ended up getting a brick thrown at my van for my troubles .

Who knows what the future brings but surely it is only a matter of time before we have to deal with another atrocity and the horrors that come with it

Me too - gobsmacked is a word I would use tho, I would have that brick on pride of place on my mantelpiece if it were me. Damn well done for what you did.

As for where we were - I was with a client in Chandlers Ford in the morning and had no idea of what was happening. I had an old Range Rover I was renovating and called in at a motor factors to get some spares on the way back and in the reception of the motor factors they had the TV on and I remember asking what film this was. To be told "It isn't". The shock sinking in was awful.

My wife was on a jolly with some girlfriends in Spain and could not fly back as all flights were grounded. Very worrying but trivial compared to what others were going through.

I was working for a courier company at the time as a mechanic/driver. I had been out to Paddock Wood in Kent I think it was in a 7.5 tonner with a crap radio. On the return journey I kept getting brief snippets of news when the radio managed to pick anything up. When I got back to base about 3.30 pm ish I got the full story (well as full as it was at that time), when I got back home and put the news on the TV it was horrific.

Good on yer Antony, well done mate.

Where was I? At home on a day off, I switched the idiots lantern on to discover the 1st tower had gone down.

I rang Lady T to tell her about it as she was at work and wouldn't know, as I was on the phone to her the 2nd plane hit. By then they'd rigged a TV up at her works and they saw it too.

For me it was on a par with waking up to find Princess Diana had been in an accident, her death hadn't been confirmed at the time.

Astonishing events of our time.

I never normally remember where I was on momentous occasions, but on that day I do. I'd had a spot of lunch in Littlehampton and was walking back to the car. A painter & decorator was working in a sub basement with his radio on and he was standing absolutely still with his hand holding the paint brush up in the air.

I was curious about what he was listening to and stopped above him. I couldn't make out what was happening and asked him whats happened? He told me about the tower. We were both extremely shocked. At the time it was presumed to have been a dreadful accident. I jumped in the car and raced home to watch the television and then saw the second plane hit the tower.

It beggars belief that people who profess to believe in a god could do such a thing.

I remember it very well, we were at Brownhills collecting our new Swift Suntor 590 motorhome. Hubby had taken the afternoon off so we got there straight after lunch and found it wasn't ready as they hadn't put the awning on etc, even though they knew we due to collecting it at 2.00 pm. We had to wait around for ages and all we knew could gleam from one of the staff was that a tower block in America was on fire but nothing more. It wasn't until we eventually got home around tea-time that we found out what had happened.

No words can adequately sum up how awful it was.

As for Diana, I too remember exactly where I was when we heard the news about her being in a car crash - I was at a car boot sale and heard some people talking about it as they'd just heard it on the radio, I can still remember it clearly - very shocking.

And Elvis ... I was just 14 and just about to go to bed when a newsflash came on the telly at around 11.00 pm saying he was dead - as I was a big Elvis fan I remember being asbolutely devastated.

Mel , as another Elvis nut I remember his death too . Thanks to my Dad we were all Elvis mad in our family I remember my brother bursting into my room and telling me of his death . My Dad did not go to work for a week and bought every paper he could , it was also the first time I had seen him cry . My daughter went to Gracelands last year and took loads of pics for me and wrote my name and a message for me on the wall outside like all fans do . In my lifetime there have been some terrible events in the world but if I was been honest I would have to say that the death of that guy had more of an affect on my life than other event , what a saddo! .
