wearetouring Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 During the first week of December we intend to visit a number of Christmas Markets. Starting off at Trier and along the Mosel to Cochem, Koblenz then across Holland, Belgium and back to Calais. We want to stay on as many Stellplatz's as possible, are they still open in December, which are the best ones, and on our route are there any other must see markets? :-D
MandyAndy Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 We have done the markets over the past 3 years, we too are going the first week in December. Just hope it isn't like last years weather. http://www.germany-christmas-market.org.uk/ Scroll down the page and it gives you the map and all the markets to choose from. The best we have found is Aachen and the Stelplatz is excellent with EHU and just down the road from the number 21 bus which drops you at base of the market. To get back you need the same bus and ask for the hospital stop which is just across the road from where you get on. Another favourite is Monschau, stelplatz there needs to be better organised but well worth the effort. Arrive early on a Friday to get a spot, market only runs Fri to Sun. Stunning place, on the way down to market from parking spot go into the market hall on the right before you get into the town, wander in deep as we missed most of it the first time we went. We did Cologne last year, 6 markets in one place, stelplatz is next to tram station , you can get a map of all markets and what station to get off, each ticket takes 5 people all for around 8 euros a day if my memory serves me right. EHU there can't remember cost but not that much and we paid at machine, right next to river side and cycle track. Hope this helps a little Mandy Just a note, we did Brugge twice and disappointed both times compared to others.
