AJSIL Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Hi Has anybody experienced a broken speedo (i.e. not registering at all) on a Peugeot Boxer autosleeper? Could it be dust clogging it up (we're in a very dusty area) or is it sheer broke? Many thanks! *-)
Dave Newell Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 What year is the boxer? From about 2003 on it is electronically driven and the speed sensor on the gearbox is a not uncommon failure. D.
Brambles Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 If you have the later model with electronic sensor, 1st thing to do is disconnect the battery and reconnect 10 seconds later. You will possibly lose your radio code so have it to hand so you can re-enter later. This may or may not sort but will confirm the electronics has not just locked up which can happen on rare occassions.
Keithl Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 From an earlier post by AJSIL "Our van is a ten year old Autosleeper Symbol". So that would make it pre 2003 and hence cable operated by Dave's info. Therefore first thing to check is if the cable has become detached or broken, or failing that if the speedo drive gear in the gearbox has stripped. Keith.
AJSIL Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Sorry for delayed reply - it's 2001 - so ....
AJSIL Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Thanks, yes. guess it's the old speedo cable - can you give a rough idea of where this is located? Wish we'd packed a Haynes' manual! ;-)
pkc Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 H AJSIL, Wriggle under the van behind the front offside wheel, look on the gearbox/ diff casing with a torch, if you have one of these sensors with the wires coming out and no cable, it's electronic. Mine is a 2003 van and has the electronic sensor, £95 a pop, easy to fit, Dave gave me the info on how to test it,
Dave Newell Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Speedo cable runs from top of diff casing through engine bay to rear of instrument panel. The speedo pinion drive worm is a known problem on this generation of Ducato. Jack up the front and supportwith axle stands, remove speedo cable from gearbox fitting then pop a thin screwdriver into the fitting and rotate the offside front wheel, if the screwdriver doesn't turn then the drive worm is the most likely cause. D.
AJSIL Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 Thanks so much for your advice so far, PKC and D! We will have a look! (lol)
