Mel B Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I'm fed up of it! I've just come back from holiday looking forward to having a catch-up on here and it takes so long that I just can't be bothered! I note that another thread was done about it being slower than normal but it seems to have turned in to a version of 'Soap' (remember the original US TV series?) with all the back biting etc so I didn't want to resurrect it! 8-) The site seems even slower than before I went away and it was bad enough then ... seriously considering going to one of the 'pay' forums now and I'm not joking ... I've been on here for years now, always loyal to this site above any other, but now ... enough is enough ... I'll give it another week and if it's still the same I'll be off. :-( PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE can something be done about this! It has gone on for ages and we don't seem to be getting anything sorted! *-) if I didn't know better, I'd swear that Warners were trying to kill it off without telling us ... however, if they are they are doing a marvelous job because it's working! >:-(
aultymer Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I can't say this site is anyslower than the other MH forii where I have been known to lurk. 2 years ago all sites appeared to be slow! Running 'Tune up' utility gave me back my computer which I had been about to bin.
kelly58 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I could not agree more this site seems to get slower every day sometimes it seems impossible to get it to react its like watching paint dry..
BGD Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 This is now, by some considerable distance, the slowest site to respond, of any that I frequent. I have emailed "management", I have emailed Staff, I have mentioned this in other threads, but have had no response from the Company at all - not even an acknowledgement. It really is dire now; and Warners continuing silence about the problem is deafening.
pepe63xnotuse Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 To be honest, when folk first complained about it being slow,I didn't really see what they were on about.. :$ but since downloading IE9 a couple of days ago,it is now PAINFULLY slow..and just refuses to respond half the time..!? *-) Is "slowness" specific to which ever "system" you're using..? :-S
Guest Tracker Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 No - it's just as slow on IE8, Firefox, and Opera!
BGD Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 The dire dire dire load-speed is nothing to do with which browser you're looking at pages with. I use Chrome, and the speed of the very slowest of ALL the other websites is substantially faster than this site. IMHO it is to do with the speed (or utter lack of it) of the steam-driven Server that Warners have got this site hosted on. Usually, as I understand it, it is either that the Server itself is of Victorian vintage (not often the case any more), or (and this is usually what slows sites down), the Server Hosting Company has loaded it with the websites of so many other customers too, that the Server is jam-packed with them now, and is suffering massive "contention"..........millions of requests from web-page viewers PC's all over the globe coming in to it all the time, and it simply can't process them all in anything like an acceptable timescale. We still await any further news on the much-hyped Warners Techie peoples "We are finally going to do something about it" announcement of.........ummmmm...........aaaaaaaaaahhhh.........................several months ago.
Colin Leake Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 It's free. Chill out and enjoy it. The delays you are complaining about may seem long but they are only a few seconds which make little difference in the great scheem of life. Oddly enough and I have no idea why but it is much faster on my IPod than my lap top. There are some other sites I look at that are even slower. Try any of the banking sites between 8.30 and 9.30 when people have just arrived at work and see how slow they are. Sometimes one simply can't get on to them.
Mel B Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Sorry Colin, gotta disagree, I often have a wait of a few minutes to get from one item to another in the forums and that is the problem - I come on here to have fun and chat, give help and advice, NOT to sit like a lemon waiting to access the next item and wishing my life away in the process. I don't mind the odd occasions when I might have to wait a few seconds, that's fine and I could even put up with that it if was like that even more of the time, but when I'm waiting for minutes between 'click' then it gets stupid. I agree with the possible reasons as given by Bruce and think he's probably on the right track as I can't think of any other reasons for the site to be so bad. The slowness is damaging what used to be the most popular motorhome site on the 'list' - IMV it seems to be towards the bottom of the list now. Yes there are spats etc which some don't like and have moved to other sites because of it, but I think that the speed is really THE major issue now which needs to be resolved before we all get fed up and move somewhere else. I'll be sorry to lose contact with my friends on here but if I struggle to use the site anyway then what choice do I have? 8-)
antony1969 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 How come sites like Thai Ladyboys.com and shemales.co.uk are a lot faster than this one and you use webcams on those dont ya Rich .

I don't yet know Antony - but you obviously have the experience well sorted - it was one of the others who told us about it - but I promised not to tell?
Dave Newell Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I completsly agree with Mel, this forum/site has become so slow now that I'm all but giving up on it. I access this forum at various times from at least five different sources, my phone, my workshop pc, my office pc, my home laptop and my Asus tablet. It is far and away the slowest site I use on any of these using a selection of browsers. My conclusion is therefore the same as Bruce, the server is experiencing severe contention ratio issues. I will continue to look in but on a more occasional basis from now on. D. In edit, to illustrate my point, i swtched on my tablet at 9.00 pm, it takes 15 seconds to boot to the internet. I browsed three threads on OAL then tryped my response to this thread, that's another 15 mins of my life wasted. D. In a further edit it has taken more than five minutes to addthese last two edits. D.
DESCO Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Have to agree totally. Hardly look in now used to be first place
bob b Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I find it very odd that Warners haven't responded to the comments/complaints on the site. As I understand it, they haven't even responded to e mails to their office. To just ignore the complaints is even more frustrating.
Guest pelmetman Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I can press the reply button on here then click over to another forum I use almost type a reply and find on coming back here its still waiting!! Its so frustrating. Sue
teflon2 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Maybe I'm the only one but Ive timed the resonse and the max has been 15secs which I dont feel is too bad John. :-S .I'm using win7 and google don't know if anyone else is.
Keithl Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 teflon2 - 2011-09-11 8:03 PM Maybe I'm the only one but Ive timed the resonse and the max has been 15secs which I dont feel is too bad John. Sorry John but I think 15 secs is totally unreasonable. I've just asked my eldest Son who works in website design and programming and he says that 4 seconds should be the target time for any good forum to load a page, whether it be posting a reply or simply opening a new page. So come on Warners, pull your finger out before we all move off to another Forum and cancel our subscriptions. Keith. Edit. And this post took 23 secs to load which is absolutely dire :'(
Paul- Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 On the plus side when you click on something it gives you time to make a cup of tea :-) & make a sandwich & take the dog for a walk Paul
Guest peter Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Totall agree with you Mel. All warners forums are now totally ruined and they don't seem to care one jot. So like you I'm thinking of giving them a miss in future. You can tell how bad it's got from the non appearance of so many knowledgable posters who are now conspicuous by their absence. You can tell that warners don't give a damn by their reluctance to comment on the frequent complaints about the pathetic response of their servers. Maybe they think it doesn't matter, but it is a reflection on their attitude to their readers, so it should matter a lot. So like Mel and others I'll see you over on practical motorhome forum, which actually works as it should.
nightrider Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 The mods are not so fast at speeding up the site or replying to members complaints but they are ever so fast when they want to delete a thread?
Administrator Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Hi everyoneI very sorry to see you are all having trouble with the speedof the site – please be assured we are aware of these problems, we do care agreat deal that the site isn’t meeting expectations at the moment and we are inthe throes of organizing a server upgrade. I have previously responded on a different thread but it was a while agonow and I’m sorry if you haven’t received a response to an email to someone atour offices. I’m afraid the upgrade hasbeen fairly complex to work out and so we haven’t been able to resolve this asquickly as we would have liked. When we re-launched the site in the Spring we didn’t anticipatethat traffic would grow at the speed that it did - in August we were 50% upyear on year and so we were caught out somewhat by that unexpected growth. It is that coupled with the new site designand functions that have caused the server to struggle to deliver page loadspeeds that are acceptable. Somebrowsers are better and worse than others, oddly Firefox seems better than InternetExplorer for many people. I don’t want to bore you with a load of technical jargon butwe have now got a plan of action for the new server set-up which has a lot morememory and processing power. It willalso be set up to adhere to some new security rules that have come into forcesince we last upgraded 3 years ago and it will be PCIDSS compliant so data iseven more secure. The server upgrade will take place during October, when we knowthe exact date we will let everyone know on the forum so you know when therewill be some disruption to site availability. It will take up to a couple of weeks for our technical team to migrateall of the Warners sites on the server Out&AboutLive shares (7 in all) - weshould only have disruption to service on the front end of the site for 1 daywithin that. I’m very sorry that we aren’t able to do this sooner but I dohave our technical team on the case with this and as a business we are making alarge investment in this project to ensure we all have a nice speedy site to usegoing forwardI hope that answers most of the above questions but pleasecomment below if there are details you would like to knowThanks Amanda NightingaleHead of Online Development at Warners Group Publications
DESCO Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Fine words. Now let us see if the actions follow, I won't hold my breath.
Guest Tracker Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Thanks for the update Amanda - it is at last good to know that someone still cares and that plans are afoot to get the site speed back to where it once was. As it is free I don't suppose we have too much to grumble about but it sure is frustrating having to wait up to 30 secs for a page download. Anyway, I for one appreciate your efforts whilst we all await with fingers crossed!
Colin Leake Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Thanks for the udate only human. This explains why I find the site much faster on my IPad than on my lap top. Just for the benifit of other users untill the update takes effect if you have an IPad try using it in preference to a PC. It's still not lightening fast but it is a least very much better. Just out of interest to the original poster where exactly were you planning to go off to? I have tried severial alternative sites for motorhomes and they are not a patch on this one.
